Happy Monday, friends! 😀
I’m sharing some photos of our living and dining rooms decked out for Christmas here on the blog today, and if you’d like to see the video tour, just head over to my Stories on Instagram at 2pm CST. (My handle is @LetteredCottage)
We went with a woodsy vibe this year, and I really love how cozy it feels! My friend, Evan, came over and helped me add all the live greenery the other day and it really kicked up the cozy factor!
I used trees from Hobby Lobby in plant pots (also from Hobby Lobby) on the mantel. I also layered in the arched window my Great Grandpa Stauffenberg salvaged from an old church he tore down many, many years ago. The cute little sign was made by precious Susie Harris. The ball garland came from Hobby Lobby last year and the stockings are from HomeGoods and Crate & Barrel.
Here’s a link to this cute throw pillow: Christmas Tree Pillow It’s one of my favorite things in the living room! 🙂
Another one of my favorite things is the centerpiece. It’s an old crate I picked up at Amy’s Antiques, filled with yarn balls (thanks for wrapping those, Evan!) and a small cake stand with candles on it. The evergreen sprigs tucked in the corners are the perfect finishing touches!
I’ll be back tomorrow with some fun and simple placeholder ideas that Evan and I dreamed up too. See you over on Instagram in the meantime! XO

PS- Here are links to some of the things we used in our home!

Pretty! ❤️ I love your insta stories. You make me giggle daily. And I am always inspired! Happy Christmas!

I love it all, but I think the yarn balls are my favorite “who would’ve thought of that” idea. May have to incorporate that next year!

Very Beautiful but sad not to see a Nativity anywhere.
Layla
It was in my last post about the (other side of the) living room, Carol. I’ll add the pic to this post for you.

I’m sorry. Forgive me that I missed it! I did not mean to be negative. Please forgive me ! I humbly apologize. I see now that it would be a negative statement. All I can do is say I’m sorry and ask you to forgive me.
Layla
Forgiven! 🙂

It is all lovely and you are right, very cozy! I love the centerpiece, the yarn balls, pine cones and greens are perfect together! Merry Christmas to you you and your family!
Layla
Merry Christmas, Karlene! 😀

Where did you find that leather coffee table?
Layla
Ya know, I searched and searched (my mind and the internet) last night to try and remember, but I just can’t seem to find it! :-O It’s a Pottery Barn knock-off, and it normally doesn’t live in the room because Steevenson needs the floor space for his toys, but it was fun to pull out for the shoot! 🙂

GORGEOUS LAYLA!!! I absolutely love the live greenery! That GREEN is so lovely and I love how the pillow with the tree just picks up the green right up in the living room! I too did a natural color scheme – no red. All of the creatively wrapped packages are perfection too! The chairs are the perfect color, bet you’re glad you persisted in getting the right color!! They best thing? The THREE stockings- Stevenson is such an angel (well, all kids are aren’t they?) and I’m so glad to follow along with the journey God has you on! So glad he picked you guys to be Sonny Boy’s parents! MERRY CHRISTMAS!

At 77 I’m more of a minimalist but love seeing other’s houses all decorated up. Yours is beautiful. The picture that drew my attention the most was the one with the beautiful black and white cat. Didn’t know you had a cat. He/she reminds me of my tuxedo cat that lived 19 years.
A blessed Christmas to you and your family.
Susan Bush
Once again beautiful..just wondering is your parents place done as of yet …would love to see pictures
Layla
Thank you, Susan! It’s not done, but we’re hoping to have it finished in January! 🙂
Kelly
Where is the pom, pom throw from? Everything is beautiful!!
Layla
Thanks, Kelly! It came from HomeGoods!

The new doors on those shelves completely changed the look of your room now, Layla. Pretty before but outstanding now. So fresh looking. I love. All of it.
Layla
Thank you, Cindy! It’s so nice to finally have those done! 😀
Marilyn Palmer Hewitt
Very nice, Layla! I like all the greenery — it makes everything pop! Wishing you and your family a Blessed Christmas!
Layla
Merry Christmas to you too, Marilyn! 😀
Kris
So pretty! Do you have problems with your fur babies chewing on the greenery? Just wondering because my cat nibbles everything (including my daughter’s latch hook kit!?).
Marianne in Mo.
Oh so pretty! I like the woodland theme. Your table is so nicely set, and the centerpiece is lovely. I am dying over that garland you got at Costco – who knew?!!! Wish there was one close to us! I went scavenging the woods by us for some Cedar branches, but when I got them home, they smelled like – excuse this – URINE! EEEWWWW! I had to toss them! And I had clipped branches up high just to avoid the possibility, so I have no idea what type of Cedar that was!
Have a Merry Christmas! Can’t wait to see pics of Steevenson on that day!
Melissa Dahl
Where did you get the blue and white striped napkins?
Jane D.
We have a small log home but my style is not “country” It’s more classic and I am always so excited by your tours! It can be tricky blending in the cottage style in a log home due to the naturally darker palette but I’ve copied some of your ideas when it fits in. Your house looks lovely! My favorite thing you’ve shared today is the table setting. It is simple but stunning! Merry Christmas!

Your home is lovely! I noticed a few additions, or perhaps I somehow miss the posts. The doors on shelving by the fireplace and those wicker dining chairs! Please tell us where you found them? Merry Christmas to you and your!

Your country/woodsy style of Christmas decorating this year is cozy and warm. One of the photo’s of your dining room shows a table setting with the fork to the right side of the of the plate it is supposed to be on the left of the plate by itself and the knife and spoon on the right.
Have a superdooper Holidays, Merry Christmas!
Layla
I know. That’s why they were switched in time for the Instagram stories tour. In my opinion, it doesn’t really matter though…in the grand scheme, I mean. 🙂
Kim Wood
That is beautiful!!! Great job❤️
Layla
Thank you, Kim!! XO
Janine
I am removing our TV from our mantel to make it more cozy and inviting! (Hobby Lobby signage already picked out) Where, pray tell, did you find that snowy horse and tree pics from this/last year’s Christmas mantels? :o) Love the alive yet peaceful vibe of those two! Merry Christmas!
Layla
Pottery Barn! 😀 Merry Christmas! XO
Tracy Ruff
So simple and sweet! Just what I was hoping for!! Perfect!!!!
Layla
Thank you, sweet friend! 😀
Heidi
What do you use to hang the greenery and the bead garland? – command hooks? wire? I would love a tutorial on that.

Layla, It is all so beautiful! The little log trim for packaging that Stevenson “helped” paint is my favorite package accessory. I know you told us where you got them in your insta stories, but I cannot remember at all! Seems like it was target or HL. Would you please take a second and kindly refresh my memory for future reference? Thank you!
Rebecca

I had to look at everything a couple of times, so pretty!! love the way you made the green pop right out!!
Chris
Everything looks perfect but I had to giggle when I saw the Nativity set…. does it look to you like Mary is giving a high five? Great ob, Joseph! We made it!
I mean, they deserve it!
