Well, the crew prepped and sprayed one coat of primer on the walls in the den/kitchen and breakfast room in Jim and Katie’s Bungalow Barn on Saturday…
Some of you asked if J & K were still planning to add beds in the loft area, and the answer to that question is yes…eventually. For now, it’ll just be a storage space. We’ll add the stairs and under-the-eave beds later on down the line.
That wall that the stairs will go on is only 10′ wide, so we’ll actually be doing a cross between a ladder and a staircase there. Here’s an (rough) inspiration photo of what I mean:
That one’s pretty basic (ours will be more finished-looking), but you get the idea. Here’s a photo of the loft area (and stair wall) from further back:
We can probably get really creative with built-in storage underneath the stairs on that wall, too!
And speaking of creative…our Sonny decided he wanted to get *behind* the camera during Mama’s Pike Road Southern/LuLaRoe photoshoot on Friday afternoon. 🙂
…and being the super creative kiddo that he is, of course he found a way to stay behind it and get in front of it before we were finished shooting, too. 😀
That’s our newest shirt design I’m wearing in the photos. It’s available for pre-order today through Wednesday night (October 12th) and we’re offering it with the navy sleeves and with heather gray sleeves. I think it’s my favorite PRS shirt to date! Here’s a link to our PikeRoadSouthern.com site if you’re interested in taking a look-see:
This month’s orders will ship during the first week of November, and there are size charts over there too.
As for my LuLaRoe launch (that’s a “Cassie” skirt in the photos above, by the way)- I’m hoping to have all my inventory photographed and uploaded by next weekend. Here’s a link to my private Facebook group if you’d like to shop the sale when it’s live!

Hi there, it’s been so fun to follow the building of the barn; it’s beautiful! I’m wondering if you could tell us where the door is from? I think we see it in the very first picture. It’s just what I’ve been looking for. Thanks!!
Hi Layla,
The barn is looking AMAZING !!!! Thank you for all the updates, makes my day☺️
I’m very interested in ordering lularoe from you but I do not have a facebook account, can I still order through a website from you? (I apologize in advance if you already answered this previously:)
Thanks so much,
Lisa☮️
Love the barn so far. How do you like the camera? It is one I was looking at for my son.
Thanks!
Kathryn
He LOVES it, Kathryn!
God sure knew what he was doing when he added creative Sonny to your creative family!! Love the barn-I want to live in it!!
The bungalow is coming along and I love it! And your son could not be cuter.
On an episode of fixer upper they did a loft ladder that could be raised and out of the way when not needed. There might be times you don’t want little one to have access to it. You might want to check it out. Love the barn.
Are you only offering shirts in the baseball sleeve this time? I was looking for a T-Shirt for layering. Thanks.
That looks great! Did you drywall under the wood boards? I’d like the shiplap look in our new house and I’m trying to figure out if it would be better to just go ahead and drywall and then add the wood over the top, or only do the wood. Thanks!!
My kindergarten partner was a big believer in letting kids try things out. She would tell you “There’s a lot of power in giving kids a camera.” What a great way to share your love of photography with him.
Loving the wood wall look! It won’t be too long before they get to move in, maybe next month?
Steevenson seems to enjoy taking pictures, like most kids. We give our older digital cheapos to our grandkids, and they have a blast snapping away too.
We have finally reached move-in day! We close on our house Wednesday, and the movers will be packing us on the truck while we sign papers. Thank goodness our daughter has the week off so she can be here for us and supervise. Lake house, here we come! I just hope we have internet so I won’t miss anything.
You need to design a rolling library ladder/staircase that would be flat against the wall until needed. (Picture a barn door) Then somehow pull out and extend to get up to the loft. You’re creative like that. 🙂 We actually primed all our shiplap before installing. Had an assembly line in the basement.
Barn is coming along great. We are in the midst of a renovation, and are doing all the work ourselves…..very tiring! Good luck on your new clothing venture. Everything is so cute…. except….as much as I love the style of the skirt…the side seams, where the stripes dont match, would drive me crazy! (Former Home Ec teacher here, sorry)
Wow, it’s coming together nicely and looking great! And adorable Sonny! 🙂
We completed our new home in the past year. The living space is clad in shiplap which our builder had spray primed before spray painting. I just want to give you a “heads up” that the knot holes and yellow streaks bled thru within about six months.
We now hired another contractor to sand, prime and repaint. According to the new contractor shiplap needs to be rolled/brushed rather than sprayed to avoid the problems we have had. I hope you don’t encounter the same but notice you mentioned spraying.
I’m so sorry to hear that, T! 🙁 Ours did two coats of primer before they painted…we’ll see if that helps with the bleed factor. #FingersCrossed
What color did you paint? I scrolled and scrolled but can’t come.across.it again. You are an.inspiration. Thank you
