The Back Porch

May 16, 2011 By Layla

Kev’s Mom and Dad have a cute little screened-in back porch…

And while they have plenty of seating…

…the pieces were definitely in need of a facelift. The original paint was chipping…

…and the cushions have faded in the sun…

So the day before Mother’s Day, we brushed off the loose bits of paint and gave everything a fresh coat of spray paint…

…and a local seamstress is sewing new cushion covers out of this outdoor fabric from Hobby Lobby as I type…

Kev’s parents are celebrating their 42nd wedding anniversary this month, so we’re going to treat them to a little extra sprucing up back there when the cushion covers are done.
Stay tuned for photos of the freshened up, new look!

Can’t wait to see how these wicker chairs come out. I have some wicker that needs a facelift too. This may be the inspiration I need to get things started. Love your blog so much, I put your button on my blog 🙂 Would love for you to grab mine too.

That was sweet of you guys! 42 years together is really something to celebrate.
I can’t wait for summer to change the color of all the wicker on my back porch. The person who invented spray paint deserves a medal of some kind!

Nice. It looks like you’re close with Kev’s parents. I wish I can bond and have more time with my in-laws. I can’t wait to see the finished product of this project.

The sun is really against furniture sets. That’s why I invest in a good curtain to block away its rays especially during mid day. I also use a special spray to protect my leather couches against the sun’s heat.

Love the fabric and can’t wait to see what you do with this area. Although I love my deck, I really wish it was screened in. Maybe one of these days. For now, we’ll put our deck make over on the list for next summer.

    Hi Layla!

Oooh! That is exactly what we want to do with the new house we purchased. Can you share with me the paint that you used (I can’t see the full name in the picture)? Any other tips are appreciated!

    Thanks so much!

We have a covered back deck with the same type of furniture in bad need of a new paint job – this might be my inspiration to get started! I look forward to the rest of the project, because it’s such a wonderful part of our house/yard but needs a better feel. I think outdoor rooms need to feel like an extension of your house and yet mine feels just like an empty wooden space 🙂 Can’t wait to see your redo for it!

We spruced up our wicker chairs this year as well with some red spray paint and I’m always amazed at how a simple can of spray paint can so transform an old object into a thing of beauty 😉 Have a wonderful week and can’t wait to see the new cushion covers.

Love that fabric & that porch! I cannot wait to re-do (or DO) our back patio. In the shade it’s nice but when the summer hits? TOO hot to be outside period! I would still love a super cheap facelift so the 100 times I open/close the door for our 2 Shelties, it looks pretty & you can sit, read a book & be comfy. Would LOVE if you & Kevin were here in the desert & make a girl’s dream come true! I kept looking for contests for Father’s Day to makeover our bedroom or garage or backyard for the hubby. No luck. Every one of them never comes to Az. Wonder why! You’ll melt if it’s in July. Maybe anyway. =)
