Happy Monday!
A sweet reader named Jane sent me some photos of her half bath recently and asked if I could do a little “presto change-o” action on them, using her Pinterest board as inspiration.
I haven’t blogged about a Pick My Presto in a while, so I was excited to see her email…and she had so many great pics to be inspired by!
Here are a couple of the photos Jane sent me to work on:
…and here’s what I had fun coming up with in Photoshop for her:
Here are the interactive versions for those of you on a desktop computer. Just move your cursor on and off the photos to see them presto change-o!
Since it’s a half bath, and Jane seems to reeeeally loved white wood walls, I popped those in behind the sink and in the area around the toilet. If she didn’t want to get into a lot of construction, she could use  Stikwood painted white, and if she didn’t want to use real wood, she could use wallpaper that looks like wood. I would paint all of the other walls the same shade of white as the planks.
Jane said she wanted to remove the cabinet doors above the toilet, so I added some antique shutters in their place, and also pasted in one of the floor tiles she had pinned. It looks like the vanity is in pretty good shape, so maybe she could paint it black and distress it if she likes the way the one in the inspiration photo looks?
Last but not least, I popped in a blue bathroom door. It doesn’t have to be that particular color- I just wanted to give her an idea of what a pop of color would look like there. So cute with all the black and white!
I’m hoping these photos help her to see how much potential her little bathroom has…and I hope she keeps us posted on how it all comes together! 😀
What is that thing above the sink that makes the ceiling there so low? If that can be eliminated, it would help a ton. So would getting rid of that wallpaper. Your version also looks good because the sink and toilet are white. But if she can’t afford to change those out, that apple green color is kind of back in style. On the other hand, a water expert told me, people can’t wait to spend a fortune on the latest phone but they’re content to use plumbing technology that’s 30 years old and that uses tons too much water. So good for her if she switches to a low-flow (white) toilet.
I wonder if there’s some duct work or something in that bulkhead above the sink?
That wallpaper ?
Love everything about your design proposal including the blue door.
Love your ideas! What a dramatic change-o!
If you were doing the design you’ve made, where would you find things like that beautiful mirror and the shutters?
What a huge change it’s fabulous. Seeing the difference right there instantly would make anyone want to go right ahead and do the makeover. I love these presto makeovers you do.they’re magical!
The blue door just topped it all off for me! Loved it all.
Oh what a transformation you came up with! I love all of it!!
Idea for Jane to save money: I believe that ANYTHING can be painted now-a-days, and her toilet and tank looks to be in good shape. She should try to get a company (or can maybe do it herself) to spray paint a new porcelain white onto the green… I think I have seen that done online somewhere. She could probably google it to find out. That would save a ton of money, from buying new, and taking out the old, and having to have a plumber come in, etc. Just a thought for Jane! 😉 Best, Gloria
Her half bath layout is similar to ours … hmm, I may “borrow” some of your ideas, Layla!
Love what you came up with! That door style is the same one we are adding to our new house. I wanted to get away from the six panel doors we’d had in our other houses. I want to add faux shiplap in the baths after we move in. Just didn’t have a chance to do it before they installed everything.
I almost sent you a presto change-o right before we decided to sell our house! I really just needed validation for my idea before presenting to my hubs. But with the new house, I went ahead and made the change in it, since we are building the same house – again!
p.s. I’m still THINKING ABOUT THIS! LOL! Also paint the green sink white too, and LEAVE the white Formica top, if Jane likes white, and PAINT the existing cabinet below, in a robin’s egg blue (or whatever color of Jane’s choosing… seafoam, red, black, whatever!) and strip the green wallpaper and put up a “soft” wallpaper (white background, with a “hint” of whatever color she chooses to paint the bottom cabinet)… AS YOU CAN SEE, I am all for just KEEPING what one has, NOT tearing OUT. I don’t know WHY people will tear out what is still good, JUST to SHOW the newest stuff… If something is still viable, why waste what the good Lord is giving us right there, if it’s still good??? And, why waste money? OK, I will stop now! 😉 –gv
Oh, my, Jane’s before has the avocado green and other decorations out of of the 1970s. I completely identify with her–our half-bath has harvest gold toilet and sink also from the 1970’s!
From her Pinterest board, it looks like she has been giving careful consideration to what she wants to do, and Layla you have taken her ideas and made a lovely presentation. I hope all goes well with the remodel!

Beautiful design! Do you mind sharing what program you use to show your new design with?
Love this! I have a hall bath that I’m going for this look in. I know shiplap is all the rage right now, but I’ve loved it for EVER….can’t wait to put it in my bathroom! That dark vanity is so cute against all the white, too.
I agree about that huge soffit, getting rid of that would open up the space. If the home is a multi-story, that might be hiding ductwork or plumbing. The wall the toilet sits on seems to suggest a staircase, so that might be it.
That is so fun! Love the new changes and love that blue bathroom door!
Awesome changes, Layla!! Love the design you came up with. I miss these segments from you. They’re really fun to see what you come up with.
