“However motherhood comes to you, it’s a miracle.”
-Valerie Harper
I try not to wonder about 2-26 too much, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little curious about what this particular 2-26 might bring with it. We got two reeeeally encouraging updates from our adoption caseworker yesterday. Like, fall-to-your-knees-and-just-sob-prayers-of-thanksgiving-and-hope-out-loud-to-the-Lord kind of updates. Updates that could lead to another very exciting blog post later today? I don’t know.
What I do know is this. Although I have been “pregnant” for 3+ years, hope still courses through my veins on even the most difficult of days.
What I do know is that, no matter what happens today, anticipation will continue to gallop wildly in my heart, because although I may not look like I’m “with child”, I can promise you there’s an indescribable love growing there.
However motherhood comes to you, it’s a miracle…and whatever day it comes on, that’s a miracle too. 🙂
PS- The book in this post is wonderful (What I Do Know, by Lori Schlecht), and I literally gasped when I opened the package it came in today.

I’m praying and anxiously waiting for another blog post today!! 🙂

I am so excited for y’all. I can’t wait for that blog post!

Oh, wow. God’s getting ready to bless your socks off. I love it when He does that!

You glow in every picture. I think that is a pretty good indication you are “with child”. Your labor may have been slightly different but it was a labor, a definite labor of love.
Many blessings. I have been waiting for 2/26 all month hoping you got the news you guys have waited so long for. A paper can’t tell you what you already know: he is yours. It just tells the rest of the world.

I have been following your blog for a number of years and am so excited for you!! Someone once told me, and I’ve heard it a number of times, your child is your heart walking around outside of your body. I feel that so intensely. I never wanted to have children and then God had a different plan and I’m so glad he did. I’ve known love my whole life, have been blessed, but there is no love like the one you feel for your child. You are showered with blessings and prayers today; I cannot wait for your heart to come home <3

I am rejoicing with you on receiving your miracle!! It matters not the day, just know he’s yours!! Now rest in the Lord.

That boy is one blessed kid to have you as his mother :). God knew what He was doing when He paired Sweet P with you and Kevin! I can’t wait to see the picture of all three of you. What a miracle :)! I am a sponsor of Three Angels orphanage, and my prayer is that all of those children will find families as wonderful as you and Kev. What an awesome thing you are doing adopting him. You are giving him an opportunity for a life that will be blessed beyond measure. A life growing up in a Christian home. Wow. Just Wow.

Just so you know…. You and your family are in my thoughts in between your posts! Wishing you a joy filled day!

I love the quote, I love the book, and I love what one of the other women wrote.
” You already know in your heart that your are his mother, the paper just tells the
rest of the world that”
May your and Kevin’s joy be full…we are all so eagerly awaiting with you.

Huge lump in my throat, Layla.

What a lovely book. I am an adoptee (domestic adoption) and getting honest answers about where I came from has always been important, and I’m very grateful that my parents have been open to sharing them. Wishing you well on the adoption journey now and always!

Layla,
Reading your blog all these years, I feel like I have been walking with you and have been praying for you throughout this journey. I was thrilled to read your post! So very happy for you and Kevin!
Grace n Peace!
Mary Sosa
I remember that feeling…you will never experience the most IMMEDIATE and INTENSE love as when you hold your child(ren) for the first time. :’) I am holding my breath with you and Kevin waiting for Sweet P! God Bless.
Maggie
Hope it’s great news today!
Linda
Wishing you and Kevin a blessed weekend and praying for great news! God has brought you and Kevin this far and he will continue through this journey.
Are you and Kevin going to call your son “Sweet P”” or by his real name, what ever that is? I’m excited for you and Kevin.
May calm and peace be with you!
Layla
Thank you, Linda!
Sweet P (which came from Mr. P, Mrs. P and Sweet P) is just an “online nickname”. We will call him by his real name and a shortened version of his (10-letter) real name. I can’t wait to share it with you!
Marcie
So exited for both of you! Hope you get super awesome news and have a great weekend.
Olivia
Hi Layla – I’ve been following your blog for a couple of months now, after being turned onto it by a friend who is also an adoptive mom (our 3 yr old who we adopted domestically at birth is named Laila :). I can’t wait to see how your story continues to unfold as we are in the process of adopting again, but from Haiti! We started late last July with an agency and our dossier got sent to Haiti on 2/8 so we are just beginning our “wait”. But thinking about that and reading about your hope filled me up, and my eyes too ;). Blessings to your family, and good luck on these last legs of the adoption journey!

Oh, what excitement you both must feel in your hearts. How do you keep it so calm? Just know that he will come to you very soon now. Always let him know that he was so wonderful that you chose him out of so many. My prayers are that you will hold him in your arms, right there in your home now. How he will love that sweet little room you’ve created for him.
Pam
Hi Layla,
Great news about getting your son soon! My question is this: Do you think this book would be too “old” for a boy age 12 and a girls age 9, both from China, that are being adopted by a family in our church? The children don’t know much English yet, but this looks like a wonderful gift to give to the family.
Thank you!
Jan
I’m praying that very, very soon Sweet P will be in your arms.
Beth
Layla,
I am anxiously awaiting your news!!! Such excitement and truly a gift when you can officially be together as a family. I have been following your blog for a couple of years and know how long you have been awaiting this miracle. I will be checking my email…god bless you all xoxo

Layla, You are such an inspiration! Prayers for you and your precious little family. It is truly amazing what God can do if we just give it all to Him!! Can’t wait to meet this angel boy!?????
Colleen
Very excited to hear!!!!

Can’t wait to hear the excititng news!! I have been praying for God to intercede in a mighty way, and to make a way when there seems no way. It would be really cool for you to Periscope when you find out because all of us would love to see your reaction versus reading it. No pressure though.
Juli
Yours is the first RS feed I look at whenever I see you have posted something new. I almost feel like Sweet P’s Nana, I’m so excited for you!
Janine
Layla, Thank you for sharing each update, and your mama’s heart! Such a testimony of God’s love and faithfulness. :o) Looking forward to seeing full family photos someday soon!

Thinking and praying for you. Read yesterday’s and today’s posts. I was the lucky girl 50+ years ago adopted by the best Mom and Dad. However you give birth to your family it is a gift and a joy.
A poem my Mom kept in her jewelry box I hope your share with your sweet P:
Not flesh of my flesh
Nor bone of my bone,
But still miraculously my own.
Never forget for a single minute,
You didn’t grow under my heart,
But in it.❤️
Robbie
Our journey to get our son from Ukraine was 9 months. And we brought our (local private adoption) daughter home during those same 9 months. As I like to say, “Most women are pregnant for 9 months. I was in ‘labor’ for 9 months!” Praying for patience and daily encouragement through this arduous (but well worth it) process.
