Steevenson’s toys were *just* the motivation I needed to fiiiinally get some shelves inside our built-in cabinetry in the living room. It was a super simple project. First, we used some left over wood to make cleats:
Then, we used some inexpensive plywood as the shelves. We tacked 1x2s to the front of each one to make them look a little chunkier, and then stuck some Stikwood to the front of each so that they’d look like the front and side of the cabinet:
Next, I painted the shelves (and dry-brushed the Stikwood) Light French Gray by Sherwin-Williams:
Oh my goodness, it’s SO nice not having all those boxes on the hearth anymore! 😀
Last but not least, here’s a short video I posted on Instagram the day we were putting it all together:
If you have any questions about this project, don’t hesitate to leave me a comment below. I’m happy to answer!
Have a great weekend, friends!

Definitely helps to have the shelving.
Perfect timing–we will be needing to do SIMPLE shelves in our new–very dated–home in an upcoming move. This will work great!
I love finding stylish ways to stay organized. Shelves are great; not only can you show off your decorative home decor but you can hide clutter in stylish baskets and boxes as well!
It looks great! I love the idea to add Stikwood to the front – so creative!
hey girl- love the shelves!
Looks awesome!! You should really do a far out before and after I would love to see that again 🙂 Also loving this stikwood stuff!
xx
you are too cute Layla! (your video)
Perhaps because I have “been there done that” in a way, I toooootally get the feeling of “oh my gosh I love my kid(s) but I have an organized space again!” Especially combined with holy crow I actually found two minutes while the kid(s) were busy/out/at school to get some work done! 🙂 LOL!
Looks great and likely feels great!
Sending ya hugs!
