I Painted Our Kitchen Island…Again!

Jun 15, 2018 By Layla

Happy Friday!

I thought I’d share a photo of the new kitchen island color since I had mentioned that I would be re-painting it again recently. It was Simply White (by Benjamin Moore) for the past several months…

…but after trying out several colors, I ended up re-painting it Heather Gray (also Benjamin Moore) because that’s the color I ended up feeling the most comfortable with:

Funny how that happens sometimes, isn’t it? Or maybe it’s just me. 😉

I’m hoping to make another fun change in there when we get back from the doctor’s office today and I look forward to sharing more updated photos next week!

Happy weekend!

Layla

Beautiful. You have probably posted this but where did you find the corbels?

Looks great. Would you mind telling us what color is used on the walls? It coordinates well with the simply white trim.

It’s a VERY pretty color, and almost looks more blueish to me than grey.

I can’t help but notice your bar stools. They would be too high for our needs, but I’m wondering where you got them. Maybe they have counter height also. 🙂

    Hi Layla

I am with the lady that said it looked more blue than gray so went to Benjamin Moore and on the chart it looks very gray. Strange how lighting can change the color so much. Love the blue look but not fond of actual color on web site. I hate the variances. Am I alone?

I agree, looks more blue (like Heather Blue on BM website) than gray. Very pretty – love it!

The color does come across like a soft blue in your photo and not grey at all, definitely not the deep green gray of the BM color strip online, but it’s so pretty and I like the softness better than the previous colors you’ve tried, especially with your lovely and understated backsplash.
It was fun looking back through your kitchen archives. You took a “nice” but dreary and dark kitchen in a corner and made it feel totally open, airy and bright. Looking forward to more photos next week.

    Such a pretty room!
The socket in the island is in the center of the photo. You’ve got to get rid of that. Could you paint it? Or is there a clear alternative?

I could, but when the barstool is pushed in like it normally is throughout the day, we don’t even see it. I should have used Photoshop to take it out for that pic! 😉

The island looks great! Also dying to know what your doctor said about taking magnesium! I am in the same situation regarding looking into magnesium to help with anxiety!! I have found a lot of information but much of it is conflicting.

    Very pretty!!

What counter tops do you have?
Is White hard to keep clean?
We have white cupboards and the same color flooring that you have- funny!!!
I’d like to get new countertops soon.
Thx!!! Love your style sooooo much!

Thank you! And we have Frosty Carrina quartz by Caesarstone. They’ve been easy to care for with Thieves household cleaner from Young Living and I just use watered down Soft Scrub for stains that have soaked down in. Works like a charm!

Did you sand the cabinets before painting?

    • Layla

      Jun 17, 2018 at 9:03 am

No. We’ve painted this thing a handful of times already, so sanding would just reveal other colors- ha! 😀

Maybe this is a Laurel/Yanny thing, but I see a soft blue.

    • Layla

      Jun 17, 2018 at 9:02 am

Yep. It looks more like a gray-green on paper, but definitely a dusty blue in real life.

Ha ha, you are like me Layla and change your mind regularly! The good thing is we know what we like! Your choices ultimately are the right ones.

Just as an aside, I have been meaning to let you know for several months now, that your email posts don’t show correctly on a PC. The only way I can view them with photos etc is on my mobile. I used to be able to see them on my PC and laptop and even other people’s, but for some reason your webhosting is not allowing that for firefox. Not sure why. Anyway, just letting you know!

Looking forward to more fun adventures from you guys!

PS, Oh I meant to say also, it only appears as a full post once I have commented! Weird!

Well, it isn’t as much a matter of changing my mind on this one as it is a matter of not feeling like I had found the perfect hue. I’ll stick with this one for a while. One day this space probably won’t even be a kitchen, so it’s not the end of the world either way. 😀

I may be losing it but, didn’t you paint your island green at one point too?

    • Layla

      Jun 17, 2018 at 8:59 am

Yep! A couple of different shades as a matter of fact! 🙂

This color works well with the wall behind it. Nice
