Hallway/Laundry Area Makeover – Before and After

Sep 8, 2014 By Layla

You may remember when I blogged about our hallway before…

Laundry Room | Before

Almost every single bit of it was tan.

Hallway | Before

The trim, the walls, the ceiling, the cabinetry…even the glass part of the light fixture was a light tan color. So when the folks at Dutch Boy asked if they could come shoot a video for their new campaign at our house, I knew *exactly* which space we could paint! 😀

Here’s a look at the new color…

Hallway Makeover | Gray Owl Walls Lightened by 50 Percent | Waterslide Hall Paint by Dutch Boy

It’s called Waterslide and I just love it!

Laundry Room | Rustic Wood Shelves | Old Door Countertop

We painted the trim, ceiling and cabinetry Ultra White, and everything feels nice and fresh now.

The farm-y new light is called the Benjamin Bomber Porcelain Stem Light and it came from the folks at Barnlight Electric.

Barnlight Electric Light | The Lettered Cottage

It’s easily my favorite little thing in the entire little space! 😀

Laundry Room Makeover | Accessories

I’ll publish a separate post with the scoop on the countertop and shelves, and in the meantime, here’s the video the crew put together for DutchBoy.com:

It was such a fun day, and we’re very grateful they decided to swing down South!

Thank you for the post, I love the colors that you used in the hallway. Just a question out of curiosity, the fluffy balls in the antique jar resemble a snowball item that my toy company sells called Snowtime Anytime “snowballs”. (http://www.playvisions.com/Prod-18-1-551-165/snowtime-snowballs-6-pack.htm). Is this what is in your jar? Your laundry display looks so fresh, clean, & beautiful!

And now I want to work on my laundry room! Such a great change. You made it look achievable and budget-friendly. I have a separate laundry room, but now I still want to put a countertop and curtains over the washer and dryer. Great job Layla and Kevin.

It looks beautiful! I love a laundry “room” makeover because it’s always better to do a chore in an eye-pleasing spot. And I love hearing your voice. It’s like “oh, Layla is a real person. For real.”

Love this!!! I have similar issues with my laundry room. Just curious – did you move the electrical outlet? Is the wood “backsplash” out from the wall to allow access to the water and drain? I hope you will post more pictures of how you accomplished this beautiful and smart redo.

I love the way you used the old door. My washer and dryer had to be put in a closet in my new kitchen remodel and I have been trying to come up with a shelf idea for the top. This is a great solution! Thanks!

Oh my gosh! I’m swooning! (And I’m so jealous…my laundry is in the icky, ugly, unfinished basement). You’ve inspired me to do something to make it more palatable. Thx!

    Layla,
I have never commented on your blog before, but i just had to say how much i appreciate your renovations. You dont do super expensive or extensive renovations, but everything you do communicates your style. Thanks for showing us realistic ways to make a house a home!

That is the best video ever!!!! Dutch Boy made a great decision using you talented and creative peeps. Too bad HGTV didn’t make the same wise decision. Going to try this paint very soon. Love the room to pieces!

Those Shelves!! I love them! Did you make or buy them? Either way, we need details!

Do you have any recommendation for bathroom shelves? I just redid our bathroom. It has white subway tile in shower and all around as wainscoting. The grout is light grey and there is one strip of clear glass tile in shower area.

The fixtures are chrome and I’m having a tough time finding anything. It’s a small space so I need to efficient with the shelves.

    Hi Layla!

I just wanted to let you know that your website isn’t showing new posts beyond Sept. 8. When I view your site from my phone, I can see the new posts, but not on my web browser. So strange!

    Layla, Iove your style.
I seas your blue door with the wire glass and want one so much for the end of my hall to let in more light. Can you say where I can find one. It’s probably an d one but if I can get one I would be thrilled.
By the way my friend Maria of Little Bird Design in Milwaukee, is moving down south to be my neighbor. We are going to have so much fun with your MMS paints.
