Hallway/Laundry Area Makeover – Before and After

Sep 8, 2014 By Layla

You may remember when I blogged about our hallway before…

Laundry Room | Before

Almost every single bit of it was tan.

Hallway | Before

The trim, the walls, the ceiling, the cabinetry…even the glass part of the light fixture was a light tan color. So when the folks at Dutch Boy asked if they could come shoot a video for their new campaign at our house, I knew *exactly* which space we could paint! 😀

Here’s a look at the new color…

Hallway Makeover | Gray Owl Walls Lightened by 50 Percent | Waterslide Hall Paint by Dutch Boy

It’s called Waterslide and I just love it!

Laundry Room | Rustic Wood Shelves | Old Door Countertop

We painted the trim, ceiling and cabinetry Ultra White, and everything feels nice and fresh now.

The farm-y new light is called the Benjamin Bomber Porcelain Stem Light and it came from the folks at Barnlight Electric.

Barnlight Electric Light | The Lettered Cottage

It’s easily my favorite little thing in the entire little space! 😀

Laundry Room Makeover | Accessories

I’ll publish a separate post with the scoop on the countertop and shelves, and in the meantime, here’s the video the crew put together for DutchBoy.com:

It was such a fun day, and we’re very grateful they decided to swing down South!

I LOVE this color! We are just about to embark on a kitchen refresh and since our living room, which is right off the kitchen, is East Coast Blue, this Waterslide looks like a perfect compliment! I have to research Old Dutch to see if I can get it in Canada! Love your style 🙂

I love that color. It looks so pretty!! Also, what is the color you guys used in the room with the white credenza/dresser? That grey color also looks nice. I’m searching for the perfect grey for my kitchen. Thanks. Also I love the wood shelves and brackets (another thing I’m looking to do in my kitchen remodel).

I love the new color and the video is so cool. Now I want to change my “Happy Trails” beige in my hallway to something similar. My laundry area needs a total redo and you’ve given me some great ideas. Don’t want to gush, but I’m crazy about your stuff! 🙂

Layla, this fantastic, fresh transformation using simple things like paint and little details is so inspiring to me! You have been the biggest influence on helping me find my style. I can’t thank you enough! I’ve sort of floundered in my own home, design-wise, for years, yearning for a look that reflected my family’s style and would be a soft place to land, but it wasn’t until I found your blog that I began to get a real vision for things I could do in my home to make it feel like me. I laughed when you said on the video that you didn’t want to keep walking through the hall with blinders on, more or less. I know the feeling! But thanks to you, I am making changes, ripping out carpet, painting wood and even (gulp!) knocking out drywall. I am so excited at the thought of actually walking into my home and taking a deep breath and just feeling…good…about it. Love you, love your style, am a Shoot Fly Shoot student, a Layla T-shirt buyer and I’ve prayed for your adoption adventure. Thanks!
