Fireplace Makeover Update: How To Seal A Rustic Mantel Beam

I love that, don’t you? To think of creating anything as getting a glimpse of the Divine? 😀

Kevin rubbed three coats of Miss Mustard Seed’s clear furniture wax on our new mantel beam, and wow has it really come to life!

He used an old t-shirt to wipe it on, and let each coat dry for a couple of hours before he applied the next coat. We noticed each coat dried quite a bit lighter than when it was first applied, but we were happy with how dark it was after three coats. It’s kind of a “play it by eye” sort of thing.

I get excited thinking about hanging a certain somebody’s Christmas stocking, and the return of seasonal “mantel mania” posts!

Something ordered and beautiful out of nothing a centuries-old tree that’s still living out the secret of a seed.

So glad we get to be a part of it’s story. 🙂

Looking lovely. I adore our reclaimed “beam” Yours is coming along so nicely. When we were building ours I too got giddy with the thought of hanging stockings and the “wonder-full” moment the kiddos would have to see their own stockings hanging there. 🙂 those are little treasures. Blessings on you 3 today!

Oh, man…I cannot wait to do something about our fireplace surround!
Looking forward to seeing your final reveal – it will look so great with the built-ins on either side, too!
    Great job guys!!
