Brownie Batter

Feb 1, 2013 By Layla

The following texts were exchanged between me and my neighbor/BFF on January 26th, at 8:52pm. My texts are green, hers are light gray:

Getting a sweet tooth craving late at night when you’ve already got your PJ’s on and don’t feel like going to the store: NOT GOOD.

Having a friend that will share brownie mix and organic eggs with you before she heads upstairs to tuck in her little one: PRICELESS!

Eating so much brownie batter you’re not even hungry for the actual brownies when they’re done cooling: TYPICAL.

Have you made anything sweet lately? If so, leave me a link! I’m “paper pregnant” and expect to have a few more late-night sweet tooth cravings this year.

Now if you had everything in stock, ALWAYS, you would never have this problem. I (unfortuneately) always have a batch of my Gourmet GF Chocolate Chip Cookies, with ground oatmeal and milled flax seed, in my freezer. SOOOO GOOD! My favorite part–eating about a cookie, or more, worth of batter–YUM! By then I am often too sugared out for the warm one out of the oven–yet I always manage–with milk! 🙂

I put on 10 lbs during my “paper pregnancy”. I swear the anxiety makes you crave sweeties!. Good news is, I took of 15 when Jack came home – just from hoisting his 35 lb hiney up and down (yup, my 2 year old is a GIANT!)

  11. Anna@agoodhome

    Feb 1, 2013 at 8:46 am

Paper pregnancies should DEFINITELY come with the perk of getting to eat extra dessert! Plus, no vomiting afterwards 🙂

I, like the previous commenter, thought E might have been her husband. It made me giggle. That would be quite a friend: willing to hold up a husband booty call to get you your sweet tooth fix 😉

“Paper pregnancy”–I love that! I’m an adoptee, and I just have to tell my mom you call it that. She’ll get a kick out of it.

Wow, you are so blessed to have a neighborhood BFF – I have never had neighbors like that – except for college days in a dorm!
I am so excited for your adoption journey – you know there are so many of us adoptive parents rooting for you!

Yesterday after an afternoon at the gym with my children I came home and made my ‘prize winning’ from scratch brownies and a batch of sugar cookies for our son’s basketball team – we had snack last night after the game and I just hate buying prepackaged stuff for the boys. I made the cookies in basketball shapes and iced them quickly with orange colored glaze and our daughter melted chocolate for the ball stripes! It was a rush, but we had fun. On Tuesday I made Cracker Toffee also known as Christmas Crack – since it only has 4 ingredients and has saltine crackers in it, it’s perfect for the ‘paper pregnant’ mama! Warning though – it’s addictive! I took it to a mom’s night out and had three requests for the recipe!

      Feb 1, 2013 at 3:00 pm

Oh goodness. Christmas Crack? Will need to try this one. Looks so easy and people rave about it.

Cute post Layla! Keep it up!

That is hilarious and a great friend to have!

Tonight I’m making smore brownies for some friends tomorrow. Graham cracker crust, Ghirardelli double chocolate brownie mix (the BEST!) then some mini marshmallows and hershey blocks on top the last 5 minutes of baking. YUM!

    Feb 1, 2013 at 9:49 am

Well, of COURSE you have a sweet tooth! You’re eating for two!! Paper pregnancy is real pregnancy, after all!

Throughout the fall and winter I go back, time and time again, to my pumpkin bread (http://www.impartinggrace.com/2011/09/pumpkin-spice-perfection-tutorial.html). And if I REALLY have a sweet tooth, I add this simple cream cheese glaze: (http://www.impartinggrace.com/2012/02/simple-and-delicious-cream-cheese-glaze.html).

Bless you in this time of waiting!

You betcha, just last night. DD is home visiting from CA and wanted to make chocolate chip cookies. I was supposed to stop on my way home to get the stuff but it was a snowing to the heavens so I said no way. Luckily we searched and scrapped up enough stuff in the house to make them. They were yumm-yumm-yummeeeeee! I love that you can walk down the middle of your street in the middle of the night in your jammies. It looks so quaint. Paper pregnancy….tee hee hee

This is awesome. I get those cravings too, even without a uterus 😀 but then I just make a hot chocolate because I am trying to lose some blubber. We are blessed with great neighbors, too, it’s such a great feeling.

This is my go-to sweet tooth recipe. It is so easy and quick (too easy and quick!) and has no eggs in it, so you can eat the entire thing raw if you want! I always have the ingredients on hand. If you decide to cook it, it makes a really fudgy brownie. I love to add a scoop of ice cream if I have any on hand. I also usually add a few drops of vanilla extract also.

Microwave Brownie in a Mug from http://www.instructables.com/id/Mug-Brownie/
    Ingredients:
    4 Tablespoons Flour
    4 Tablespoons Sugar
2 Tablespoons Cocoa powder (Note: don’t use cocoa mix or quik, it shouldn’t have any sugar)
2 Tablepsoons Vegetable Oil (Don’t use one with a strong flavor, eg olive, sesame, etc)
    2 Tablespoons Water
    Dash of salt
    Mug
    Microwave

Add the sugar, flour, cocoa, and salt to the mug and mix. Then add the oil and water and mix the dry and wet ingredients together. Be sure to be thorough, there’s a tendency for clumps of the dry ingredients to form.

Microwave on high for roughly a minute. You may have to microwave it longer or shorter, depending on your microwave, but the brownie should still be wet in the center when done.

Hahaha! I had Brownies On The Brain last night too! I bought two boxes last night on my way home from work, ’cause I’m bringing desert for the Super Bowl party we’re going to on Sunday. But those boxes were talkin’ to me last night and well….one thing led to another…..words were exchanged between me and the boxes….and well….one of the boxes got a little sassy with me, so…I cooked and ‘et im!

When my husband got home late from a school board meeting and saw freshly baked Brownies, he looked at me puzzled and said, “I thought we were having Brownies for the party?” I said “Hey! What happens in this kitchen, stays in this kitchen Mister!” I made him eat some as well, so he is just as culpable as me, and won’t go blabbin’ to the guests at my in-laws. I can buy plenty more boxes before Sunday, don’t ya know!

Okay, well that’s completely awesome and I totally need a neighbor like that!

It isn’t chocolate, but I posted my favorite childhood muffin recipe the other day. They’re rolled in butter. A cinnamon. And sugar. And you can eat them for breakfast and not feel bad about it. 🙂

You MUST make P-Dubs Pot De Creme. Five minutes to make but you have to make it early in the day so it can chill for several hours.

You will swoon and your life will be rosy.

I made THE BEST peach cookie bar recipe the other day that I swore I’d never make it again – because we ate the whole pan in record time. It’s a dangerously good recipe. Alas, I don’t have a link for it. I combined two recipes I had to make it with stuff I had on hand. I could always email it you though! 🙂

My last-minute, go-to snack when the cravings hit (which I cannot blame on pregnancy, paper or otherwise) is No Bake Cookies, a childhood favorite that I’ve never grown tired of! Butter/sugar/milk/PB/Oatmeal/Cocoa made on the stove top. Just Google “No Bake Cookies” and you’ll find lots of recipes. Enjoy!

Oh, and yes, I’ve been baking. My last excursion was this snack cake (no eggs required)….This recipe was posted a while back, but it’s a standby in our house (with chocolate buttercream frosting – yum).

      http://noteworthymusings.blogspot.com/2008/05/cupcakes.html

Prior to that I made gingerbread chocolate nib cookies (they went gone too fast, no picture). lol

And these…..w/ chocolate nibs, my newest addiction…..http://noteworthymusings.blogspot.com/2013/01/oatmeal-cookies-revisiting-old-favorite.html

Please excuse my bad grammar and any spelling errors. I didn’t honestly mean to say ‘they went gone too fast’. Gone was supposed to be removed. My finger missed the delete button. Plus it’s early and I’ve only had one cup of coffee. lol

I wish I had friend/neighbor’s like this!! You are one lucky gal! 🙂 I buy those same Country Hen Organic eggs all the time-love them! I hope you enjoyed your chocolate fix. I’m sure she appreciated getting to have some fresh brownies the next day-it’s a win-win for everyone!

When I have a late-night craving my favorite thing is frozen bananas+ almond milk+ raw cacao in my Vitamix. A choco-banana smoothie hits the spot every time. 😉
