Happy Monday, y’all!
I have an exciting rug update to share with you today. You may remember that all three of the designs I submitted to the Annie Selke Rug Design Challenge made it into the top ten, so they’ll be available for purchase later this Fall through Dash & Albert. Yahoo! 😀
I received some samples of two of my designs last week, and thought I’d show you how they’re coming together. Before I share the photos though, here are small mock-ups of the three rugs they’ll be producing:
The designs have changed a bit throughout the process, but they’re still very much in keeping with my original ideas.
The team at Annie Selke put together two samples of my Octogram Star rug. One that they dreamed up, and one that is more of what I originally had in mind. The one they wanted me to see is the plush one with smaller stars:
I thought it would look great in a kids room, nursery or playroom, but it wasn’t exactly what I had envisioned, so I asked them if they could produce a flat weave version with bigger, cleaner-lined stars and fringe along the edges. Thankfully, they were open to my request and created sample #2:
I picture that one used as a kind of “layering” rug…ya know, on top of a larger jute or sisal rug to add color, pattern and a different texture. I asked them if they’d be open to the possibility of making both rugs available for sale, but they said only want to produce one of them, and based on the results from a poll I posted on Instagram, I think we’re going to go with the flat weave instead of the plush. I’m sad the other one won’t make it onto any little ones’ floors, but I’m so grateful they were open to our suggestions! 🙂
Last but not least, my Home Hardware rug:
What a treat to see that one come to life! It looks almost exactly like my original design and I think it’ll be so fun to see where folks use it. I could see smaller versions of it in front of a kitchen sink, inside a back door, or outside a front door. The larger version (the one in my photo is a 5’x8′) would look great in front of a checkout counter in a shop, or under a porch swing on a front porch.
I should be receving the Vintage Floral Stripe rug sample soon, so I’ll be sure to share pics when I have it here at the house. Thanks again if you voted for any of these designs. What a dream come true to have such kind and supportive readers and to the rugs in Dash & Albert’s collection!

How exciting! Good call on the flat weave with sharper stars! Amazing the difference it makes, your way definitely feels more fun loving! Do you know what sizes they will be available in?
Hope the big move last weekend went smoothly and they are beginning to feel settled into their new home! There will be some adjusting for all of you, but for the rest of your life you will feel good about your decision to have them nearby!
That’s terrific Layla, congratulations.
