Laundry Area Inspiration

May 22, 2017 By Layla

Did I say painting the laundry area? Scratch that. I found some planked wall wallpaper I want to try out instead!

I have always wanted planked walls in that hallway, and I love wallpaper, so it seems like it might just do the trick! Here’s a close up of the paper:

The description on it says “textured”, so I’m assuming that means it actually feels like wood a little bit too? I’ll let you know when it gets here. I ordered it from Target.com and the tracking info says it’ll be here Tuesday. I’m going to start out by just doing the area where our washer and dryer are, and move onto the walls in the hall later.

The idea actually dawned on me after glancing on this section of our living room today:

Don’t you love it when that happens? When your house talks to you?

My laundry area is also whispering a few things about the curtains, rug and countertop…but I can’t quite hear what it’s saying yet, so I’ll have to get back to you. 🙂

PS- My online LuLaRoe shop is open til tonight at 7pm if you’d like to take a look-see at this week’s inventory!

I can’t wait to see the results and hear what you think of the product.

So I am wondering, do you put it on horizontally to hide the seams or does it go on vertically like normal wall paper?

      I’ll keep you posted! 😀

When I worked at a wallpaper store, we sold some that looked like log cabins. You could apply it either direction, but we displayed it horizontally. It too was “textured”….called expanded vinyl wallpaper, it was thick and cushiony so the texture was pronounced.
Hope you like it! And if it is expanded, know that it is really hard to remove.

I love the fresh green wall paint in that hallway…do you know the name of that color?

As for the wallpaper, I love the idea…and might steal it to cover the sliding doors to my laundry closet…to make them look more like barn doors!! Can’t wait to see how you like the paper.

      Hi Cheryl!

The color is called Waterslide and it’s a Dutch Boy color. 🙂

    Layla,
Can you tell me the name of the rod and hook system you used to hang the lower ‘curtains’ in the laundry room? I want to reproduce that in my home. Thanks so much!

      Hi Kim!

It’s just a little rod and clip rings from Walmart. Easy peasy project and works great! 🙂

Do you have a link or name for it by chance? I’ve looked at a brand called Beachwood before but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Can’t wait to see how you’re turns out!

You are so brave. I think I’d rather paint than wallpaper with littles around. My parents sent me to my grandparents when they wallpapered. My mom said it was always a real test for their marriage. Who needs marriage retreats when there’s wallpapering to be done? 😂

    Layla,
Can you post a link for the plank wall paper. I love the idea, you just gave me a great idea. I have a picture frame I want to cover the glass with the plank wall paper and hang a boxwood wreath to hang over my fire place. Love your decorating style. 🙂

Love the wallpaper idea. How about short barn doors in place of curtains?

I wish! 😀 There’s no room on either side there. 🙁

Hi, Layla! I love your blog and style of decorating! Where did you get the glass jar wrapped in the rattan that is by your fireplace? I have been searching for one and haven’t had any luck. Thanks!

Thanks, Kim! My friend Jenny ordered it for me through one of her wholesale catalogues. I can’t remember the name. I’ll check with her! 🙂

That will be wonderful! A few years ago I hung a textured beadboard wallpaper as a backsplash in our kitchen. It was easy as pie (even being very pregnant!) and perfect for the space.
