Bungalow Barn Update – Swiftlock Laminate Wood Flooring

Dec 4, 2016 By Layla

…and then there was flooring!

It’s Swiftlock laminate flooring from Lowes in the color “Antique Hickory”. (Sort of bugs me that the installer used two identical planks so close to each other in the middle of the den floor, but there will be a rug there, so I guess that was the best spot for that to happen in!)

Here’s a quick video, too!

The windows I talked about in the video were originally going to be used as windows on a (new) interior wall in our side of the house (hence, the see-thru glass) but now that they’re going to be used as pantry doors in Jim and Katie’s side of the house, I’m thinking I might attach a piece of (white) fabric to the inside of them so they don’t have to look at the fifty-some small food items they store inside that niche.

I’ll be back with another update after the loft ladder/stairs are built next week!

Your floor looks great. I don’t see the difference in the planks and I bet nobody else will either!
One thing the installer did right was to stagger the seams a lot. Bravo!

My hubby was able to spot it but I sure couldn’t. I love that look. Can’t wait to see how you finish.

Instead of using fabric on the other side of the glass doors you might think of the wonderful adhesive papers available online. Easy to cut and install, there are all kinds of patterns. I’m not talking about ‘contact paper’ but actual lovely and versatile adhesive papers. I used a wonderful white and clear check on my pantry doors and a smaller version on bathroom windows for more privacy.

Yes, what Susan Feldtman said. http://www.wallpaperforwindows.com is one great brand of window film that we’ve been impressed with. We’ve had their product up on our front door sidelights (rice paper design) and a stained glass look on a clerestory window in my office and they are both still as nice as the day we installed them. Easy to install and easy to change out if you get tired of a design.

The bungalow barn is looking great! I love the updates!

Nothing is meant to be perfect.. Nature teaches us that.. I love the floors.. Perfection is not real. THEY are great.

Making the windows look like antique mirrors would be really pretty. The floors are beautiful 🙂

Those floors are beauties! I did notice the layout when you mentioned it, but it won’t bother you that much. I have a “flaw” in ours too, right past the foyer, and it makes me nuts! It LOOKS like a huge scratch, but it’s part of the design. There’s another one of these in the dining area. I thought of having it changed, but decided not to. We chose this floor because it looked rough, so that if it got marred, we wouldn’t care!
Those windows are awesome! Don’t you just love old, big windows? I agree about the wallpaper for windows. That stuff is so easy, no fuss. I’m getting some for the garage windows that face the street, hoping the heat in the closed garage in summer won’t mess them up. But so much better looking than blinds for that usage!

Looks nice but I would like to hear how you feel about them in a year. We also got laminate wood flooring and I can’t state how much I hate them. So hard to clean, special products need to be used, which i think attracts dust. You can’t use water on them so I feel like they are never really clean. After a year of normal everyday use by 2 people and a golden retriever that look horrible. I wish we had of splurged for real wood or wood look tile.

Oh, we are definitely laminate lovers over here, Terri. We’ve had lots of it installed in the different houses we’ve lived in over the years. I love how easy laminate wood floors are to clean (with a vacuum, mop, broom or Swiffer) and that they don’t scratch…unlike our SUPER scratched up real wood floors in our part of the house. My hope is to one day cover them with this same laminate.

Terri, we’ve had laminate floors for 10+ years, and I love them. I understand what you are saying because I used the special cleaner the first year too. Ditch it. You don’t need it, and yes, it does make the floor sticky. Just dry dust it and spot clean with a microfiber wash cloth with hot water. You can even attach the washcloth to your Swiffer sweeper. Use Windex on stubborn spots. A little wet (water or cleaner) will not hurt it as long as it doesn’t sit for too long. If you use microfiber and wring it out really well before you start cleaning, you won’t get too much water on your floor, and it will dry really quickly.

About the windows you could also frost the inside of them. I don’t know if you’ve ever frosted anything but it’s really easy. I’ve frosted two bathroom doors and you can’t see a thing. Merry Christmas ?

Wow! Layla I was finally able to watch a video! It’s soooo neat to hear your voice. I’ve seen you in photos and read your blog so I feel like I know you …kinda. But to hear your voice adds a whole other dimension to the “relationship”.

    So neat!

I like the “wood” floors. Medium tones all the way if you have kids and pets. Dark shows everything. Been there, done that. No thanks. You’ll drive yourself insane trying to keep it tidy.

Wow, this is so neat getting to hear you. Cool!

ok, so now “I have my curiousity on” (and I’m stalling to avoid going to shovel the three feet of snow that is falling) 🙁 so I went back to early September and watched some Steevenson snippets. You guys are adorable! And Kevin’s voice is as nice as I thought it would be. I totally guessed he’d sing Sweet Home Alabama. I like that song but I could absolutely see how Steevenson would love it.

Totally funny how you envision someone might be in your head, then if/when you meet/see/hear them in real life, it’s neat to see if your head matched real life. Aww, I’m sending “y’all” 🙂 hugs.

    Early Merry Christmas!
    hugs from Snowy Manitoba!
    …ok, gotta go shovel. 😉

So I absolutely love this floor. I went to Lowes to physically look at it too. We are building a new home and this flooring appearance is very similar to the product that I have picked out from a flooring store but it is vinyl and is double the price. I would like to put this flooring in the kitchen, dining, living room and front entry. I need more opinions and insight on laminate verses vinyl flooring. I would love to hear some opinions or insights from some of your followers, thank you

Love! Do these feel solid when you walk on them or do they have that laminate hollow bounce I’ve heard about?

They have that laminate hollow bounce.

Just kidding! 😀 If you have a solid, flat surface they won’t bounce. 🙂

I love the floor! It’s just like what I’ve been looking for. On the Lowe’s website I see a Style Selections Antique Hickory for $1.49, but not Swiftlock Antique Hickory. It looks very similar. Do you know if it is possible that it’s the same?
