The Lettered Cottage on The Design Network

So, remember that kitchen I told you we were redesigning? Well, we’ve been documenting the whole makeover on video too, and I can’t wait to share it with you online soon! Long story short- a couple of months ago, I got an email from the folks at The Design Network and after a few fun emails, and one very inspiring conference call- I decided to give it a whirl!

The Lettered Cottage Show | The Design Network

I signed on to produce five episodes between now and the end of January. My first episode (the kitchen makeover) will be uploaded to on October 1st, and man was it a blast to put together! Partly because re-doing rooms is one of my favorite things to do, and partly because I got to work with the sweetest gang around. My incredible hubby and our super-talented friend, Billy, tackled all the filming, lighting, graphic design and video editing duties, and Billy’s wife, Suzanne, helped me clean & organize the kitchen. (They’re the same Billy & Suzanne from this post- which makes this partnership extra fun!) Brian the Carpenter knocked all the carpentry projects out of the park, and to make matters even more memorable, the kitchen we worked on belongs to our mutual friends, Tommy & Shelley. They received  some unfortunate real estate-related news right before we started the makeover, but they decided to turn lemons into lemonade, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to fix up their kitchen with them over the past few weeks!

The Design Network

The Design Network is an innovative broadband network all about home décor and interior design, so you don’t have to have a TV to watch their shows. Any device that’s connected to the internet will do! Their goal is to entertain, inspire, and instruct viewers all around the world, and I am super excited to be a part of their 2013 Fall line-up. They’ll be announcing all their other new series in the next week or two, and I can’t wait to see what  all the other new hosts have been working on, too!

I’ll post another reminder update about my kitchen episode the day before it goes live, but if you’d like to subscribe (for free) to, just head over there and they’ll email you every time a new episode is uploaded. And for those who have time to check out my kitchen episode in a couple of weeks- I hope you enjoy the makeover as much as we enjoyed creating it!

… From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. Luke 12:48

This is what ran through my mind thinking of so many things coming together in this way for you all. And to trust and praise God no matter the outcome! The visual I get is God having this heaping arms full pile of opportunities and blessings, setting them down in your home and saying, “Here ya go. What can you do with this?” :) Blessings on remaining faithful to Him! (don’t think I’m in any way talking health and wealth gospel!!) Just that it is always amazing to see what God does. With some the trials continue, some they change, some they are lifted, but always He is GOOD!! :) What an opportunity to continue to witness to folks through your struggles and victories. Congrats!!

  9. Ruth T. says

Congratulations! I am so excited for you all and looking forward to seeing all the episodes. Knowing that you are surrounded by people that love and support you has got to be the greatest gift of life…. so not a ‘job’ at all!

  10. Cathie says

    Hi Layla,
I love your blog which I have been following for years … from Toulouse in France and wonder if I will be able to watch the video ? Do we have to pay to sign up to the Design Network ?
Thanks for any clarification for your European followers.

  11. Ter'e Crow Lindsay says

You know what they say…….”one door closes and another one opens”. In your instance, you kids have SEVERAL doors opening. YAHOO!!!!!!!! We are all, simply THRILLED!!! Such blessings for you.

  12. says

Cool! I’ve been missing the design shows on HGTV. It seems since the DIY network started up, HGTV is more about real estate (lots of House Hunters marathons…), and I miss all the DIY shows (but we don’t get the DIY network). Anyway.. I”m looking forward to seeing your online show! Also, I love your new header graphic! Fun! :)

  13. Keggy says

Not a finer couple alive to deserve this recognition. I’ve fallen in love with you both. And of course so has everyone else. But something they don’t know, and I hope everyone reads this, is that when I emailed you guys about not being able to finish class I bought, (still haven’t) you guys renewed immediately for me without a thought or a dime asked for. You are both such gorgeous people inside, that I seem to no longer notice that at first all I could think was how beautiful you both were on the outside. Your insides are even better. Pretty hard accomplishment. I’m so excited for you guys and can’t wait to see it!!!

  14. Cindy says

Layla: I am SO happy for you! A few years back, I emailed you with a painted cabinet question and you responded right away; I never forgot that. It has been so great to follow your blog and to see all your successes. I continue to wish only the best for you and Kevin. Cindy

  15. Cory S. says

Yea! How exciting for you. I had a feeling something good was up. You updated your site and seemed to be posting more often again. I will definitely be watching. Proof that good things come to you with positive energy, an open heart and a generous spirit, of which you have much!!

  16. Melanie says

Wow Layla, that is exciting news! I know you will be a huge success. I cannot wait to follow you on The Design Network. The executives there scored a winner when they signed you on their team.

  17. Laura Forman says

What a huge blessing for Tommy and Shelley! I couldn’t help but smile how Father knew this would happen all along! Can’t wait to see the before and after! Hope to see you out at pike road again soon! :)

  18. says

Congratulations! That is amazing news and you so deserve it.

This blog is one of the first that ever I started reading {in the wee hours of having a newborn}. It helped inspire me to start my own blog. I wish you much luck and I just went over to the Design Network and signed up, so I can watch!

  19. says

Ok, I am super excited! When I saw this yesterday on Instagram I thought, ” well that’s cool… too bad I won’t be able to watch it because I don’t have cable.” But I will! This is awesome! I didn’t even know there was a Design Network. Congratulations on getting the opportunity to produce five shows. You will have to share what that whole process is like. I look forward to watching all five episodes… on the internet!

  20. Ann says

I am so excited for you…and for me! I don’t have television so Design Network sounds wonderful. I love your style and look forward to seeing your episodes.

  21. Stephanie Hickman says

Congrats on the upcoming episodes. I have seen your husband play in the worship at Centerpoint and recognize him from the website. We love Tommy and Shelley she was showing me some pictures the other day of the progress. I can’t wait to see the reveal and its so wonderful what your doing for such an incredible family. Congrats on your upcoming adoption as well.

    • Layla says

Thank you, Natalie! I appreciate your kind comment so much!

(And although he would make an awesome brother-in-law, Keith is actually just a friend from church!) :-D

  22. Traci says

    Dearest Layla:
Just watched your episode on The Design Network – what a great way to start! I loved what you did with the kitchen and for this cute family. YOU are awesome! Keep up the great work! You can come to my home and work your magic anytime!
