Afternoons are my favorite time of day here in the new house. Sun spots dance across the walls and floors, and seeing birds swooping in and through the front porch makes me feel eight years old again.
Yesterday, Kevin and I spent the afternoon working on Halloween projects for articles scheduled to come out later this year. We were using our dining room table as a work surface, and somewhere between the foam bats and craft pumpkins, I looked over and saw Kit-Cat sprawled out in a patch of sun underneath the piano bench. His head was propped up against one of the legs of the bench, and his whiskers glowed like his tail was plugged in.
In that moment, I re-realized (for the hundred-billionth time) how much I absolutely love having a cat in the house.
Sun spots and swooping birds are so more fun with Kit-Cat around!

How do people live without a cat in the house?
Melanie
I’m so glad you rescued him! I remember the first pic you posted of the little guy. 🙂

Cats are the best! They teach us how to enjoy life fully (and not to take things too seriously). My cat is sitting by my feet and purring as I type this 🙂

I’ve got a soft spot for kitties, too. Living the life, soaking in the sun. 🙂 My cat is so stinking happy that spring is finally here up north, he’s taking in all the sunshine he can find 🙂

I cannot imagine living without Cat Help …. in the kitchen, in the sewing room, at the piano.

I love a lazy day with my two furry beasties. They do add something very special! 😉

I never understood why so many people don’t like cats. I had 6 cats when I was a child and teenager, and none of them was aggressive . They were all very affectionate. And most of all, they make me laugh… Because, they look like little lions, with this nobility in their acts, and their look… and when it happened something funny to them (when they fall or they jump or they run madly…), it’s always MUCH more funny ! Definitively, I LOVE cats … And I have a rabbit… My husband is allergic at cats… Do I have to change my husband ?? 😀
Heidi @ Decor & More
We had to give ours away a few years ago due to allergies — after 15 years of having a cat (or two) around I missed those kinds of things. Enjoy!
And have a blessed Easter, Layla!

I love having a cat in the house too. They are both fun & relaxing. My Toby is a dark grey just like Kit Cat 😉
Cottage Katie
I agree! Having a cat around the house is pure entertainment and they are such fascinating little creatures. We can all learn something from their wonderment!
Susan
I have always had a cat in my house. I couldn’t stand it if I didn’t!

A house without a cat (or a few) is not a home.
angela
I agree with you.
Susan
Oh you’re a full-fledged cat momma now too. Cats are so fun!
Layla
Oh yeah, full-fledged indeed! Truth be told, I grew up on a farm and at one point I had 32 cats that I loved very much too! Each had a file folder with their name and info inside it- ha! #CrazyCatKid 😀
Christina
My two kitties are such wonderful sources of entertainment. They’re always good when I need a pick me up. Theletteredcottage does that for me too. As I wait for husband to come out of surgery now, reading your new post and re-reading some old posts brings a much needed smile to my face. Layla and Kevin, thanks so much for sharing a little bit of your sunshine.
Layla
Thank you, Christina! You are so sweet to say that, and I’m going to say a prayer right now for your hubby. I hope he feels better very soon! XO
Cheryl
We adopted a black cat about 1 1/2 years back and I feel the same exact way. I forgot how great they are to have around. So very different than a dog. Our cat is very much a people cat and loves any attention she can.

Such a cute picture of your cat! I also love having my two kitties around the house! <3
Lisa
And I thank you for sharing all of the kitty joy with us, as we are very allergic and are not able to have cats. I so enjoy your pet photos and stories even more for this reason.
Stacey
I think the same thing all the time, Layla. When our cat isn’t flying off the furniture and running full blast she’s lazily soaking up the sun. It feels good to watch her.
Heidi
Aww I love my kitty cat too. I would probably have 100 if the BF would let me lol
Jody
I’m not sure which I love more — pics of Kit-Cat or your descriptions of him 🙂 “…and his whiskers glowed like his tail was plugged in” made me laugh out loud!
Maria (Magia Mia)
That just about says it all. Your Kit-Cat looks just like my Chloe there. She’s taking a nap in her basket by the window, with the Spring air breezing in. Purrrrr
Inge
I love this picture of Kit-Cat! 🙂 How fun it must be to be a cat, right? Soaking up the sun, laying around and be stinking lazy ALL DAY. 😀 Too bad I don’t have a cat, because of my dog… But I love every furry animals, how could you not love them? 🙂 Even my dog loves being lazy all day. When I get up to go to work, I sometimes get jealous – she gets to sleep all day and gets her food & treats from us, I have to go to work and have to prepare the food for hubby, son, myself and the dog. Not fair. 😀 😉

I just love seeing Kit Cat in your posts…so glad you found him!
Sophie
Aren’t cats the best? They tend to get a bad rap for not being very sociable, but I don’t get that.
We have six in our house!
Krista
I love all your posts but I think the ones about Kit-Kat are my most favorite. I am so glad your hearts were open the day he came into your lives and that he is thriving with his new family. You are good people!
Marsha
Gotta love a cat (and a dog) in the house! We get our sweeties back tomorrow a.m. after our trip-they were boarded while we were gone.
Halloween??!! Already! Wow! Let me know if you need anything Halloween to borrow for those background shots. I’m loaded with vintage-style goodies–really loaded–and even have originals from several nationally known artists. The best part-I’m in Prattville!
christine aldinger
i remember telling you that…..i always smile at these post’s

We call those patches of sunlight “Cat Imobilization Ray”, they walk into the ray and whamo! I have them all over my house on sunny days.
Janine S.
imagine the joy when there are 7 of them in the house!
Monika
Awww. Same here.. I have two a Bengal we bought and a domestic we rescued.. So much entertainment in our house especially when the hubs’ dog tries to be part of the cat gang! Animals are awesome!
Luci@BungalowAtHome
Couldn’t agree more! A house is not a home without a kitty cat to share it with! You’re so lucky you found each other:)
Michelle
Cat Sun is the best! My kitty is in her cat sun right now! So glad you kept Kit-Cat.
Becky
So heartwarming!
Josey
I totally understand. I lost my cat, Roo, a week ago yesterday. She gave me 20 years of glowing whiskers, squeaky meows, and purring backrubs.

This post makes me miss my cat at my parents 🙁 My dad treat Roy (the cat) like his own son. The incredible thing to see is the connection that my dad has with the cat. My dad seems to understand what the cat is saying. Incredible isn’t it?
camille
I feel the same way about my furry third child, Rufus the Boston Terrier. It’s not home without him!
Abby K
Yes! I never knew how much joy they could bring into your life until my husband finally convinced me to get an indoor cat. She makes everything a little more fun!
