Well, it’s just about time to get this redo party started!
We’ve already shown you a sneak peek of the living room we’re working on this week…
…but here’s a shot of the house it sits inside of…
The home is located in Suwanee, Georgia, which is northeast of Atlanta…
The weather is supposed to be pretty decent here this week (yay!), and we’ll be blogging and tweeting and Facebooking (is that a word?) as much as we are allowed to throughout the entire process. It sounds like there will be lots of friendly bloggers and blog readers coming out to help with the makeover too (yay!), and we’re really excited about the opportunity to work with them this week!
We’re not allowed to show any of the After photos here on our blog right away, but hopefully the episode we’re filming will air on TV at some point, and we’ll definitely be sure to let you know if and when that happens! (Of course we’ll post them as soon as we’re given the green light, too!)
Anywho…I’m gonna crawl back into the armchair in the corner of this hotel room and let my mister jump back on this laptop again. I’ve got a Mary Kay Andrews book calling my name…
I’m on page 78 and I. Am. Lovin’ it! It’s about an interior designer that throws a…well…you know.
Here’s to a hissy fit-free week!
PS- If you’re in the Suwanee area this week and have mad DIY skills- check out this post: Design TV Update. We could definitely use your help and would love to see you!

Hey Layla,
Welcome to Suwanee. I live just on the edge of Suwanee in a little town called Sugar Hill. If you get a chance check out the Suwanee Town Center. They currently have a piece of one of the twin towers displayed outside city hall. Anyway, just wanted to say hi! Hope you enjoy your stay. Can’t wait to hear more about your project. I would love to
be right there helping you out if I wasn’t working all week.
Juli

That house kind of reminds me of the house on Marley and Me. Have you ever seen it? Don’t watch it without a box of Kleenex by the way. Anyway, can’t wait to see the makeover! Have a fun week!
Sandra
I can’t wait to hear all about it through your tweets, FB posts and blog. I am really excited for you and Kevin. Keep us all informed on the makeover and enjoy the process! Best of Luck. Sandra

Have fun this week and enjoy your shoot but it’s going to be hard to put down that book. Hissy Fit is my very favorite of the MKA books!! I read it in the car traveling to a baseball tournament at OSU with my son and drove him crazy laughing out loud and trying to explain why it was so funny. 🙂 The florist….the most hilarious character!!! Enjoy your week & looking forward to the updates!!
Krystle @ ColorTransformedFamily
It sounds like you are going to have fun. I wish I was able to come help. I know it will turn out beautiful and hope everything goes well.
Virginia
WoW! You are in my town!! Too funny. I would love to come help, though I surely wouldn’t claim to be an expert in anything, hard worker yes, but expert no sir-re! My kids (Ethiopian born son – love commonalities) & I could bring some banana bread to the crew 🙂 Or you and Kevin could come on over for dinner – hehe! Have a great time here! A stroll at Suwanee Town Center is always nice 🙂
Gloria
Y’all have a great time! I’m sure the result will be amazing. Just be your amazing selves and you will do great.
Wish I could be there.
Andrea in WI
I loved Hissy Fit! It made me giggle the entire way through!
Kelly
Wow! You’re not far from my house! I live in Cumming, GA and my mom lives in Suwanee. I know that area well. Can’t wait to see the finished product!
Kim in MD

We have a GREAT habitat for humanity restore here in Newnan which is south of y’all. Also I think there is one in Atlanta (just look up restore in the ATL area). If you need any volunteer work, I’m available! Just email me!
Julie
Enjoy the book! I love her writing!
Michele
The opportunity to help with this makes me wish we lived down south.
Nathalie
When your done in Sawanee, can you head on over to Ball Ground!!!! I can’t wait to see what you and Kevin do this time..
Allison A
Oh my mercy! I am uber excited to see and hear all y’all come up with. I wish I was close. I would love to help, even if it were to bring tea or hold something while you nailed it. Good luck and know my fingers and toes are crossed for a “hissy-fit free” week!
Roy
Can’t wait to see the makeover! Best of luck with your television show!
julianna
What’s the premise of your show? For some reason, I was thinking one component was redecorating on a small budget. But now that I see that big, gorgeous house you’re working on, I wonder if I was mistaken? Is it just all kinds of decorating in general?
Layla
Hey Julianna!
You were right- makeovers on a budget is what we do! 😀 And we’ll mainly be working with folks who are “house poor”, or live in newly purchased foreclosures or fixer uppers and aren’t sure what to do with them!
Amy
We are in Suwanee also. How exciting 🙂 Good luck with everything, Layla! I love your blog!
Valerie
I live vicariously through you and your great eye….one day i hope to live in a quaint but beautiful home♥♥♥
Lorenia
Not being ugly or rude, but I would like to see HGTV come to Alabama and re-do some modest homes that most “regular” people actually live in. Are you two going to be able to work in your home state? We need a lot of remodeling and decorating going down around here too. Love you site!
Layla
Hey Lorenia!
We actually did a few casting calls on our blog over the past couple months for Southern-based peeps (Alabama included!) for our pilot episode. We hope to shoot in several different states if the series gets picked up!
The Georgia-based house we’re working on for the pilot is actually a foreclosure, and the inside hasn’t been touched since the 80’s. Although it has great curb appeal, the young, newly-married couple that just purchased it definitely has their work cut out for them on the inside of the house. We’re going to have some fun this week helping them redo their living room and can’t wait to see what they do with the rest of the house too! 😀
Dori
I am so excited to follow this adventure. Have fun with it! If you ever get to Dallas I will be really happy.
LauraC
oooh, GREAT BOOK, enjoy the read!
If you all need a wonderful 2nd hand/antique/consignment shop, check out A Classy Flea in Marietta, it is full of really fun, fabulous finds! Heres the website (but it doesn’t show much) http://www.aclassyflea.com

OK OK OK. I’m not a great DIY’er, but as a retired Atlanta-Lawrenceville resident, I CAN give you a good recommendation of a good Thai restaurant. Thai Chili in Atlanta (http://www.thaichilicuisine.com/). It’s BY FAR my favorite Thai Restaurant. It’s so so good…My-husband-and-I-ate-dinner-there-on-our-wedding-night good! Give it a try!!!
I’m bummed that I’m not down in “Jawja” visiting my family right now – I would totally do my darndest to help you! Good luck and can’t wait to see the final results!

Hi Layla,
Not sure if you need help still, but I do bookkeeping if you need that kind of service. Volunteer of course. I love what you do and am excited for the pilot! It would be fun to get involved somehow! I would love to learn more from you as I think you have much talent!!!
