I found the cutest scavenger hunt idea over at Hands On As We Grow, and just had to try it out with my across-the-street neighbor, Ever. We had an indoor scavenger hunt while I was kid-sitting him and his little brother last week, and before I left that night, I promised to set up an outdoor one while he was at school the next day.
I started by cutting out a cloud and some clues, just like Jaime suggested in her tutorial. Then, to create a pocket, I used craft glue to secure the bottom edge of the cloud to a 12×12 piece of blue paper.
Next, I cut out some “rainbow rays”.
Then, I hid the clues and the rays around Ever’s house:
The idea is, you hide one clue with one colorful ray so that when the child finds it, he or she knows where to look for the next clue and ray. To start the hunt, I tucked the first clue in the cloud on Ever’s back door:
It said: “Look for RED by the GOLF CART”. When he got to the golf cart, he found the red rainbow ray and a clue that told him to “Look for ORANGE by the KITTY FOOD.” I wasn’t there when he was hunting, but his talented mama was so sweet to snap these photos of him in action!
When he got to the last strip, it told him where he could find his prize.
He even remembered to stick the rainbow rays in the cloud pocket when he was done!
…or at least his sweet mama did. 😉
PS- I got Jaime’s permission to post the printable version of the clues I used:
They’re a little different than hers, so you might want to hop over to Hands On As We Grow before you hit print! XO

Such a cute scavenger hunt idea and cute little boy! Scavenger Hunts (Lego Figures, etc.) have been a big hit at our boys’ birthday parties — we split the boys into two teams w/ a team captain — they love the competition and working together with lots of team spirit: )

When my sons were younger (they are now 17 & 18) we used to have indoor scavenger hunts during their sleepover or birthday parties. The kids loved them.

Okay, so I’m going to play this for my kiddos at church. I’m going to use a turkey without his feathers instead of the cloud/rainbow idea. Thanks for the idea!

Love this! I would like to save this idea to use in my future classroom. Are your clue slips downloadable? Thanks for sharing.
