Remember those calendar tea towels I got for our half bath?
I got them on eBay, but the tag said they were originally from Anthropologie:
I’m such a sucker for beautiful branding, so I had to know more about this “One Canoe Two” the (super cute) tag spoke of. My internet search quickly led me to this barn:
It’s located in Missouri, and these are the creative gals who work/play there:
Carrie and Beth (on the left) have been drawing buddies since they were kids, and now they work together (in the barn/studio) as professional illustrators, designers, and printers. Their website says “The name ‘One Canoe Two’, came from years of dreaming up big ideas around a campfire and floating down a spring-fed Missouri river in a canoe. Two girls, one canoe. One canoe, two! “.
“Carrie and Beth were just beginning their journey as a letterpress company when they asked Carrie’s sister-in-law, Karen, (on the right) to join the team. Now three women strong, One Canoe Two is chasing even bigger dreams and creating art that makes people happy all around the world.”
And boy do their creations make me happy! I adore these tea towels:
…and the way they display them in their photos!
They also create really fun calendars…
…and recipe boxes…
…and lots of other gorgeous goodies:
I instantly fell head-over-heels in love with their style, so shortly after I found their site, I took a chance and reached out to them about creating a new header for my blog. I had no idea if it was even something they did, but much to my delight, they wrote back and said, “Yes!“.
I am absolutely thrilled with how it turned out! It’s exactly the look and feel I was hoping for. It’s like they were able to read my mind! 😀
I wanted to brag on them a little here today, not only because I love their work and they’re so such sweet peeps, but because I’ve received several questions about “what font” my new logo is. The lettering was actually hand-drawn by Carrie, and if you’d like to e-meet her and the rest of the One Canoe Two team, just click on the banner below to be redirected to their site!
They were so kind to knock my logo out quick enough for me to use it on my first episode for The Design Network, too:
Which reminds me, if you were one of the friendly folks who left me a message about episode 1- thank you so much for your encouragement!!! I am so glad you enjoyed it, and I feel so grateful for the opportunity to share it with you through TheDesignNetwork.com!
And speaking of their site, if you have time to swing by there and leave me a comment with ideas for our last two episodes, we’d all be so grateful for your time and input! We’re working on a big project on one side of our living room for episode 2, and I *think* we’re re-doing a friend’s fireplace for episode 3, but we’re totally open to suggestions for episodes 4 and 5. Unless they include getting bit by another fire ant while we’re filming:
I’m definitely not open to that again. 😉

Oh goodness – absolutely loving those towels. They would look great framed, too. Headed over to their website now to check out all their goodies! 🙂

I was TOTALLY wondering about that rad new header. So much fun! I love all their goodies and I love that you told us all about them. 🙂
Planning to get caught up on your show this week. #downtime!

LOVED the episode of the new kitchen. I am also getting excited about the market at the Chapel. I would love for you to design my craft room – I’m at a loss. Whatever you choose it will be awesome. Best wishes in all your endeavors.
Stephanie
Oh my nervous! I love new treasures! Thank you for sharing this gem.
Lynn Minnick
I love the new header. Been loving it since you put it up! I think it’s fantastic that you support this small business. Thanks for introducing us – I may just contact them for some work too 🙂 Congrats again on your show. I feel like we’ve all watched you grow over the years and I’m really excited for you!

One Canoe Two is from my hometown in midMO and we grew up with Beth and her family so it is so fun seeing this company explode across the country. Love their style elements and letterpress! Your header looks great 🙂

I recently just came across their work too! So whimsical & fresh. I have book marked them because I believe they sell to the trade & I hope to be adding a stationery line in the future:)
Tara
Wow! I wondered who did your new header! I love it! I may contact them as well! Also, loved your first episode!

Well that’s easy….come to my house in the North Carolina mountains and re-do ANY or ALL of the house. Actually, save it for next season and you can do ALL the rooms for the entire season. Just trying to help.
Layla
Well, since The Design Network is located IN North Carolina, you should toooootally leave this comment under my video over at TheDesignNetwork.com. Who knows, right!? 😀
Bekah
What a talented bunch of ladies!
Episode 4 should totally be when you come and redo our playroom 😉
Layla
Ooh! That would be FUN, Bekah!
Patti Z
I wondered about your blog’s new look — great work One Canoe Two!
Kate
LOVE the kitchen renovation-great job. The colors you chose are absolutely beautiful.
Would you be able to remodel cabinets that are not wood the same way, I wonder?
Kendra
Love this video! Congrats on your first episode, can’t wait to see more! And, wow — LOVE the stuff over at One Canoe Two! I’m putting their recipe box on my Christmas wish list! 😉
Teresa
Layla, I have always been told that butcher block is very expensive. where did you get the piece for That makeover? I am going to be building a new home soon and want the island to be butcher block.
Layla
Hi, Teresa! Tommy got it at Ikea! 😀
Lynn Mosher
Hey, Layla! Love what you do. And love the shelf in your powder room. Do you mind my asking where you got it? I’ve been looking for some sort of shelf/cabinet for our updated hall bathroom. Thanks!
Layla
Thanks, Lynn! I got it on Etsy! 😀
Lynn Mosher
Thanks so much, Layla! 😀

I loved the first episode!!! You are so naturally talented, Layla! have you ever considered coming to the Pacific Northwest?? My kitchen needs you! The Seattle area is really beautiful this time of year!
Layla
Thank you, Jane! 😀 Kevin and I had our first date in Seattle, so YES, I’d love to head back that way! Sushi AND decorating this time around sound AMAZING!! 😀
Jane H.
We have a great guest room for you and Kevin – with a view of Puget Sound! Whatever you charge, you (both) are so worth it! Since we just moved into this 1955 Federal Colonial (meaning it is vintage 1950’s in so many ways) we could really use your help! Whatever room you would want to tackle for this show – or just as a job that would bring you back to where you had that first date – we are ready and willing to be the hosts to you both!
As an aside, your prompt response was so awesome! You are the first blog I ever followed, and still my favorite! So, if you ever want to come up and work on our home, we would be thrilled!
Denise
Love the header, love the towels, love one canoe two, love the episode! I have been tempted to paint my dark cabinets, and now I just might! <3
Shannon
I’m in LOVE with their stuff. Thanks for the link. Shopping now for some goodies. I just left you this comment over there for an idea on shows 4 or 5. You could gain experience with a sweet teenage girl who is into design and flowers. I wish she was coming to your chapel market so she could meet you and Evan. She volunteers now at a shop and wants to own her own floral shop. She told me to take LOTS of picturesof your and Evans amazing work.
Here is the comment I left…..Fantastic job you all did! Love the different task areas of the kitchen. I have an idea for your last episodes. We are trying to redo our 15 y.o olds bedroom, that was inspired from your post on the upstairs VRBO rental of your neighbor. She helped when we built a knock-off PB stratton bed which you can see at http://bohemianjunktion.com/2013/03/19/knock-off-pottery-barn-stratton-bed/. Now we have a cupola, 2 vintage columns, and a vintage sofa for her room. However we have no idea on a headboard, and want linen bedding, and maybe a plank wall or two. This project has been on the back burner since March and she is ready to have her room done, since it’s a hodge podge of her older bedding and some of the new stuff. Just an idea for episode 4 or 5…….
Thanks for being such an inspiration on so many things in our world. From introducing us to our favorite vacation spot which is now Tybee, to how she wants her room, and to living out our faith and being the us we can be. You and Kev are incredible!

I could not love this post or this story any more!

Hey Layla,
Your 1st episode rocked! I have a suggestion for episode 4 or 5. My mother-in-law recently passed away and we are in the process of dealing with the estate. Naturally, there are items that my husband wants to incorporate into our home. Come show me how to take my mother-in-law’s traditional southern things and marry them with my decidedly flea market, cottagy home. Beaumont, TX isn’t too far from you!
Cait
I LOVE One Canoe Two! My husband bought me the beautiful Georgia state print for Christmas and it’s hanging lovingly on our walls. And if you need another “project” in the Atlanta area, I have an old wooden mantle that needs redoing or a kitchen that needs some finishing touches 🙂
Shannon
How about a 1970’s basement makeover in Iowa for an episode or two? We are quite tired of the orange shag carpet, dark wood paneling, and yes, coca cola pendant lights. YIKES! I do have pictures to prove it! That kitchen looks awesome!!
Rachelle
Loved the episode! Is there a source list for the kitchen? I was specifically wondering about the white board…
Layla
Thanks, Rachelle! I didn’t do a source list, but mentioned where I got the things on the wall within my blog post about the kitchen. The white board was from Pottery Barn Kids! 🙂
Erika Tracy
Sweet stuff. Enjoyed seeing a homegrown team of good friends. What pretty products too!
Let’s pow wow if you need *possible* ideas for folks to work with on MORE (yay!) episodes. Enjoyed this one and left a little comment telling them so. 😉
Katherine @ Grass Stains
I love every SINGLE thing you posted a picture of, Layla! And the new header is absolutely you. One hundred percent. LOVE!
Sandra
The camera just loves you! This was such a fun episode to watch, and the transformation is just perfectly cottage. Thanks for the information and link for One Canoe Two. Love your new header, and fell in love with their other stuff!
