Well, y’all. I was *finally* able to check out the new HomeGoods in Montgomery this past week and I’m happy to report: it’s INCREDIBLE!
That’s not actually it, but I couldn’t find a photo of it online and I wanted to show you that ours is a HomeGoods/Marshalls combo store like that one. In other words, they open up to each other from the inside, too so the whole place feels huge! I was there for nearly 3 hours the other day and I didn’t even see everything on the HomeGoods side. I never even stepped foot in the Marshalls side!
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen the video “drive by” stories I did in the months leading up to the opening of this store. I swear, I had more comments on those posts than anything I’ve ever shared over there! 😀
The other day, I asked my Insta-friends if they’d be interested in watching a series of “HomeGoods Hump Day” stories. In a nutshell, it would be me, visiting HomeGoods each Wednesday to share decorating inspiration, ideas and advice with whoever tunes in while the stories are up. (They disappear after 24 hours) I posted a poll on one of the stories to gauge if there would be enough interest in something like that and would you believe that out of the 4000 Insta-friends that voted, 97% said yes! And that several of the people that voted “no” said they accidentally hit the wrong button- ha! 😀 Several others actually said they selected “no” because they don’t live near a HomeGoods, but when I explained that it would be more about sharing decorating inspiration that could be applied no matter where they shopped, they said they wanted to change their vote too! 😀 (I’m actually thinking it might be fun to do “Hobby Lobby Hump Day” or H&M Hump Day” sometimes too!)
Needless to say, I’m really excited to give HomeGoods Hump Day a whirl, and I wanted to blog about it here too because this Wednesday will be my first one. I’m not sure what time I’ll get there, but it won’t matter on Insta-stories, because like I said, they stay up for 24 hours. If you’re not familiar with how to watch my Instagram stories, you just click on my profile pic over there to watch:
And just an FYI- you can always tap the left side of your cell phone screen to go back to the previous video if you want to “rewind”. Same goes for the right side of your screen. You can tap it if you want to “fast forward”. And to pause an Insta-story, you just press your finger to the screen.
Anywho- we’ll see how it goes. I’ll do my best to keep the stories concise and informational and inspirational. And hopefully I can partner with HomeGoods to give away some gift cards in the near future too! 😀
I’ll be back soon with some “after” pics of the exterior of our home. The painters are finishing up one last door today and we are blown away by the transformation!

I just wanted to point out that Tj maxx and home goods have continued paying their employees in puerto rico despite the fact that the stores have been unable to open up post hurricane. It’s a great store to support right now.
Layla
Oh, that’s so great to hear! Thank you for sharing, Sarah! 😀

Layla, We got a Home Goods right before last Christmas at a nearby town. I CANNOT stay out of it. Even on days when I don’t purchase, it makes me happy to go in there. I will anxiously await your videos!
Thanks.

Yay! Thanks for the encouragement, Bess! XO

I asked my local HG if there was a particularly good day to shop (as in, when does the truck come in) and she said, Monday and Tuesday. But I believe a truck comes in another day as well.
Layla
Yes! Ours gets deliveries on Tuesday, so I figured there would be less people there on Wednesdays. 🙂
angela
i do not like Insta-story because I can never see them because I do not have a cell phone.
Layla
Sorry to hear that, Angela! 🙁

Angela, I don’t have a smart phone either, but I watch her insta stories on my computer. I can’t remember exactly how I did this, but it might have been a chrome extension. Anyway, if you google “how to watch insta stories on computer” you should be able to find some info on how to do it. I recommend trying to figure it out, cause they are fun to watch! Good luck!
Layla, any chance you can call it something else?

I tried to click on your picture as you told me, but nothing happened. 🙁 I am on a laptop, so I guess I should google it to see if I can figure it out. I feel like I’m really missing things when y’all put them on Instagram!
So glad you have a H.G. nearby! Mine is a 45 min. drive, so I don’t go as often as I did when we lived 10 mins. away! It’s also a combo store. They just moved across the highway, and I haven’t been yet – hope I don’t forget to turn left instead of right! LOL!
Layla
Oh, no- you’ll have to click on my profile pic on the Instagram app on your mobile phone! 🙂

Um, is it a lot of work to post the same thing here as you do on Instagram? Otherwise I’m not on Instagram so I guess I would have to miss out 🙁
I really appreciate being able to see how you pull things together and transform spaces – I try to learn from you, so I can figure out how to pull things together without you …because I doubt I could convince you to fly up to Canada to do your magic here. 🙂 we’re definitely into the below-zero temperatures here. -20 the other day.
But we have Home Sense, Pier 1, Michael’s, Winners, Marshalls, Bed-Bath-&-Beyond, Ikea, Urban Barn, Hudson Bay Home store…. I’m not sure if we have a Home Goods.
I like the inspiration photos that you’re posting now, but I like the idea of changing things up. Wish I could be there for the in-store experience. I bet it would be such a blast!!!! 🙂
Hugs from Winter-is-here-to-stay-Manitoba 🙂
Layla
Oh, I’ve heard HomeGoods is the same thing as Home Sense in Canada! 😀
Let me see if I can get some more storage on my iPhone. If I can, I’ll be able to save the videos, email them to myself, edit them together in Adobe Premier, and then upload the finished video it to YouTube so that I can share it here! XO

P.S. sorry, -20 celsius is -4 farenheit. Canada and USA being neighbours, I forget sometimes that our “weather people” speak different languages. 😀

WOW I just read the post that said Home Goods AND TJ Max are still paying their employees after the devastating hurricane!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Home Goods and TJ Max and now I love them even more to hear they care about their employee’s such as that! Just wonderful, we NEED more good stories like that in our world!
And Layla, when you say you roamed in the store for 3 hours, I SO GET THAT, its so easy to do!!! AND I watched every insta story while you drove by WAITING so patiently for their doors to open:) I kept thinking, my goodness, I couldn’t wait for the store to open so you could see it:)))))
And lastly your house………WOW WOW WOW ….swooooooon!!! Cannot wait for you to share more finished photo’s AND of course the porch decorating will be delicious…you know it!!!

I too was missing out on the “Insta-Stories”, as I do not have a smart phone either, and I view from my P.C./desktop computer. I was able to download the “Google Chrome” Instagram app onto my computer though, after finding directions, by looking on the internet. I am so glad I did! I was missing so much, by not being able to view the “Insta_Stories”. Layla, that would be great if you could do some kind of a thing as you mentioned in comments previously , where you use UTUBE or something, so everybody could watch them! By the way, whatever happened to that crazy “Shayla” character, anyway ? LOL
Tina
Happy to see Sarah’s post about them paying their employees in the midst of disaster & hardship, as I love TJ Maxx, Homegoods, & Marshalls. My store is a TJ Maxx/Homegoods split. How great would a TJ Maxx, Homegoods, Marshalls triple-threat be? Wow!
I’m not on Instagram so if you can ever post your videos on your blog site, I would tune in.
Have fun enjoying your HG/Marshalls!
God Bless!
