We added another layer to our bedroom this weekend. Curtains! We found them for $19.99/pair at Ikea.
They’re called “Lenda” and they come in a bunch of different colors. The rings also came from Ikea ($5/ten), and the rods came from Wal-mart ($12.97/each).
…and while we’re zoomed in, I wanted to show you three books I reeeeally enjoyed reading recently:
No Greater Love, by Levi Benkert, Same Kind Of Different As Me, by Ron Hall & Denver Moore, and Jantsen’s Gift by Pam Cope. WOW! They each had such a significant impact on me. I highly recommend all three.
In pet news…Max was too tired to strike a post yesterday. 😉
…and in adoption news, we’re still hoping to receive Sonny boy’s passport in June so that we can go pick him up when his visa is ready, his medical exam is complete, and our I-600 form in approved. (Those things *generally* take 6-8 weeks.)
‘Til then, we’ve got his cute little face posted in just about every room of the house, and we’ll have a chance to talk to him again (via FaceTime) on June 9th. I need to brush up on my Haitian Kréyol this week!
PS- I added a Reading List tab to my header if you’re interested in seeing what books I’ve read this year, and please, if you see a must-read title missing from my list- leave me a comment below! XO

I’d love to know any recommendations you have for books about international adoption. My husband and I are considering it and would love to read more about the actual process and families’ lives after. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I read Same Kind of Different As Me a few years ago and really loved it. Looking forward to reading the others you recommend.
Praying you are on your way to bring Sonny home very soon! He is adorable and you 3 make a beautiful family!

Same Kind of Different As Me is one of the most inspiring books I’ve ever read. I also recommend it highly.
Sometime in your life please read When Breath Becomes Air… the reviews on Amazon are almost as noteworthy as the book. High praise.
And if you’re interested in reading something that will change your outlook on our justice system, make you cry with sadness and joy, give you another handful of heroes to admire, please read Just Mercy.

Love the new curtains!
And you are in the home stretch of the adoption it seems! This will be the time of waiting that is perhaps short, but will seem to take FOREVER!! here’s wishing you a happy time of waiting. ❤️

Have you read The Color of Water by James McBride? It is older but an all time favorite. Such an inspiring true story. This mom is the most remarkable lady!

Love it!!! And I’m loving that blue and white star quilt!
Sonny is a doll! His smile is contagious! Won’t be long and he’ll be home.

The new curtains look great and great prices! Never thought to check ikea! Thanks for that tip!
I love the frame sweet Sonny boy’s picture is in. My triplet grands live out of town and I have their pictures all through the house. They are always are on our mind so it’s nice to be surrounded by their smiling faces, isn’t it? Hopefully not much longer and you’ll be on your way to go get that sweet pea!
I can only imagine how busy you have been with the barn addition, I hope it’s helped the wait seem quicker!

I really love how your room has come together. The curtains, blind, coverlet and ceiling fixture look great and added so much to the space. Hope you soon have Sonny home with you.

Curtain question…how did you handle the tab tops of the curtains? Did you fold them down or cut them off?
Krystal Hall
Yes, I would love to know what you did with the tabs, too 🙂

Cute! Where is the bamboo shade from?

It’s lovely, just like everything you do Layla… Have you read Life After Life by Kate Atkinson? It may date back to two years though but as I live in France… She’s my favourite author at the moment.
Erica
I love the round picture frame! Can you share where you picked that up? Thanks!

I read Same Kinda Different As Me about 6 or 7 years ago. I remember it very well all these years later. It is definitely one of those books everyone should read. My son says everyone should read Wonder by RJ Palacio. He’s 12 though, so how much could he know? Lol.
Layla
Oh, Wonder is a WONDERFULL book, Tori! You *must* read it!! 😀
