Happy Monday, y’all!
The light fixture for my office came in and I’m so excited to get it hung up! It’s the Lindsay 4-Light Foyer Pendant from Joss & Main:
It was exactly what I imagined shape-wise, but it wasn’t quite the right color. I envisioned something closer to mint green. Like these…
(Hamilton, Hobe Sound, Verdigris Copper, Chisholm Hall)
…except muuuuuch less expensive. 🙂
Here are a couple of photos I (sloppily) pasted together in Photoshop just to make sure I wanted to paint my Lindsay lantern. First, in black:
Then in green:
After seeing it like that, I was sure I wanted to paint it. The black, although lovely, offered too much contrast in this particular space. It also awould’ve been the only black thing in the room, (my desk will be white and the curtain rod will be wood or bamboo) and I didn’t want it tto shout, “I am lantern, hear me hang!” right above my head. I just want a quiet fixture that whispers “garden gate + verdi gris”.
I documented a little bit of my painting process in my Insta-stories the other day:
That first coat of green is the same color I had custom-mixed to match our 130-year old wall boards, but I also want to add one more layer of texture/color, so I’ll be painting on a bit of ‘Layla’s Mint’ milk paint when it arrives this afternoon. I love the way that stuff cracks and flakes (before it’s sealed) and I think it’ll be the perfect finishing touch!
I’ll be sure to post a photo of how it turns out later this week.
Still on the hunt for the perfect table/desk, but I know it’ll come along one of these days!
And before I sign off, I wanted to share this recent pic of the three of us. Kevin and I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary yesterday and it was so fun to spend it with our little “human punctuation mark”! 😀
A few months ago he decided that my engagement ring symbolizes my love for his daddy and that my wedding band symbolizes my love for him. Sometimes his imagination makes off with the very breath of me, y’all. 🙂

Quite possibly the sweetest picture I’ve ever seen.

I thought the black was my favorite at first, but after seeing your painting video, oh my, the green is stunning. What a wonderful picture of your happy little family!

Layla — if cost = taste you have exquisite taste! Those prices are obscene for a light fixture. But yours will be custom and how many people can say their light fixture was painted with their own personal signature paint?!
Teddee Grace
Great photo of the three of you! I still think he’s going to be an actor!
hello haha narf
yesyesyes! that paint is beyond perfect! #swoon
your sonny has a wonderful heart! love the idea that your rings are important to him. precious!

Perfect!! You made the right choice by painting it! Wouldn’t expect anything else from you Layla! Always such beautiful taste! I agree, the black was way too much for this pretty pastel room!! Love!!

First of all, Congrats on your anniversary! Secondly, love the start of the new office! Lastly, what is that little doorway on the wall with the collage? A cat door? Enquiring minds need to know (…and if so, how did you do it and how is it working?)
Pamela
I LOVE the lantern, I voted for that fixture. When you were asking what color to paint it I was going to say mint green! I am obsessed with that color right now. Great minds think alike!
Layla
Oh, this fixture wasn’t actually in the poll, Pamela. I found it after I blogged about that so it sort of turned into a surprise! 😀
Ashley
You guys are so cute! You always are dressed so cute too! You should do more fashion posts 😊 Love your blog and so happy for your sweet family!
Mary Beth
how are you painting the chain? I’ve thought of painting some pendants in my house, but wondered how hard it would be to do a thorough job on the chain.
Layla
I’m going to use a rope covered chain! 🙂
Gail
Love the wall, the light and mostly hearing and seeing your family. Love the new glasses too.
