We joined Instagram a few months back and we’ve really had fun using it. Neither of our Mom’s are on Twitter though, so I thought I’d blog about some of our favorite “an-stagrams” (animal Instagrams) for them here today. You know- so they could keep up with their grandpets.
(Hi, Moms! Instagram is a free photo-sharing program that allows us to take a square-shaped photo with our cell phones, apply a digital filter to it, give it a caption, and then share it on Twitter.)
One of Max’s favorite things to do is lounge. This is one of my favorite anstagrams of him lounging…
Here’s another one…
And then of course there’s this one…
And speaking of crazy weird positions…
I’ve heard of the “downward dog”, but I’m not familiar with that one.
My favorite is when I can grab my cell phone quick enough to capture memorable moments of our animals hanging out together…like this one of Kit-Cat playing with Max’s wagging tail…
And this one of them touching paws…
And this one…
Favorite. Anstagram. EVER!
PS- We’re LetteredCottage on Instagram if you’d like to follow along with the an-sanity, ha!

Very cute pictures!! My doggies will rarely stay still long enough for me to take a picture!
m @ random musings
Super pics! I agree instagram definitely fills the void of Polaroid-like snapshot sharing for the electronic medium. And I really really like the pic of y’all using the space you’ve just renovated. Somehow it seems to put things more into perspective (perhaps by including people/activities for scale?) than simply the reveal – although those too are awesome.
Because I am a detail-oriented nerd, please note that while pics taken/filtered via the instagram app may be shared via twitter or fb, instagram has it’s own api (http://instagram.com/developer/). There are multiple third party sites that leverage the api for unique presentations and application of the stream.
Layla
Thanks! 😀 Because I am technologically-challenged, you lost me at api. 😉 Help!
Layla
Oh! Kev just explained what you probably meant. <:-) I was just trying to break down how *we* use it to our Moms- LOL! 😀
m @ random musings
So I’ll be the first to say that actually knowing what an api is at a truly technical level is probably not necessary unless someone has aspirations to be a developer.
What I *do* think is very important for instagram (and other social media) users to have is awareness that any developer [basically anybody] can register for a client_id and start querying the instagram datastream for any purpose. Instagram’s TOS for developers protects users from really skeevy activity (like spamming/harassing) but what about perfectly legitimate business needs, like marketing? Even if a user is never contacted directly, data aggregated from mining activities can be used to create predictive models for influencing purchasing choices.
Different people have individual comfort levels on this kind of thing, and there are strong arguments for many perspectives. just an fyi [even to the Moms out there]
Layla
Oh my! I’m not sure what most of that means, but I sure do thank you for taking the time to share that information here for folks who *do* speak your language! 😀
m @ random musings
Predictive modeling – in simplest cases – is just correlation. Like figuring out people spend more at the grocery store if they shop when hungry. Or what profile type (demographics, etc) is most affected by certain types of marketing.
There are a lot of very bright, hard-working people for whom their career is about presenting products in the best possible light not only at a practical level, but also one that is emotionally driven. As educated consumers, it is important to be able to distinguish between emotional needs that are internally (e.g. value) driven and those artificially created for other [totally legit] purposes. I like to lose myself in fantasy as much as the next gal, but it’s nice to be [at least] vaguely aware of when it happens 🙂
Layla
I am so lost it’s not even funny. 😀
Kristi @ Creative Kristi
awww so cute!! I’m hardly ever quick enough to get the adorable ones of the random positions my cat gets into lol Thanks for sharing!
Marianne in Mo.
Animals are so fun to photograph! Some of my faves we have are of long gone pets, as well as the ones where my daughters dressed our dogs in cabbage patch outfits – the dog-spressions were hilarious – “pleeese, if there’s a God, make them stop dressing me”!!! HA!!! As for twitter, I dropped mine due to lack of followers – sad!!
the cape on the corner
oh em gee, they’re spooning. so stinking cute!
Layla
I know, right? I could NOT get to my phone fast enough when he feel into Kit-Cat’s arms! 😀
Krystle @ Color Transformed Family
I just love these pictures and Instagram. We have a yorkie and she is best friends with our cat. It’s so cute to see cats and dogs together and that your parents think of them as “grandkids”. My mom does the same.
Layla
Ooh! I love Yorkies! 😀
Jody
The flexible Kit-Cat photo… We call that the “high five”. It seems like whenever our fluff monster sits down her foot automatically goes up like that. So when we see her that’s the our immediate comment…”high five!”
Layla
The high five! I love it! 😀
Sharyl@Thelittlebrownhouse
I love these! I adore our doggie- and he is definately part of the family! Thanks for sharing your “Fam” with us. And I love instagram too 😉
kelly
love instagram and our doggie! those are really cute pics!! looks like you guys are loving your new space and getting lots of use out of it, that is so great! (what is with at random musings, this is not a techie blog!)
The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh
I remember a few of those! A few new to me as well and there’s nothing sweeter than pet paws! 🙂
Maria @ All Things Luxurious
These turned out so cute — I just love the picture of the two of them spooning. Lol. Too funny.
Ashley@AttemptsAtDomestication
I love me some Instagram! There’s nothing like sharing random pictures with friends and strangers online 😉
Edlyn
Cute. Getting the perfect shot of a silly animal is my favourite thing too because while it’s not rare, they don’t know how to “hold a pose”. Not all of us have Westminster (?) quality animals.
Melinda
Such cute pictures! I bet the “mom’s” are loving them. Our daughter and son in law have two mini doxies and we love them to pieces – though we are still holding out for a grandchild or two : )
Ter'e Crow Lindsay
What precious photos!
The one with Kit-Cat’s paw in the air could be “High 5”. Kit-Cat version, of course.
Glad to see you resting and hanging out. As a “mother”…..I have been worried about you! xoxoxoxo
Layla
Thank you! I’m doing much better today, and I sure do appreciate your thoughtfulness! 😀

I was wondering what instagram was. I keep seeing the word out there. The pic with your feet and all your loves gives the feeling of all is right with the world in this moment. The pic of Kit-Cat hugging up on Max is great.
Becky Neville
All you instagram photos are adorable, but I love the one; hanging with the homies the best. Its great to see Kev enjoying his new (and might I say TIDY) desk. I LOVE the word YES on the door!
Erin @ DIY On the Cheap
So cute!
Katy Lunsford @ Lolly Linens
Hi Layla! I’m a canine mom and I can so relate! These photos are awesome, you have some lucky babies!
Virginia
They are both cuties! Is Max a MinPin? I love grabbing my cell phone to take pics of my pups doing crazy things!
Ann W
Looks like your new guest room is everyone’s favorite room! A blogger in Australia used to have a post once a week – Animals on furniture. They were hilarious. You should start this in the states. Ann
Kaye
Animal lover that I am, I truly enjoyed these photos! I can’t help thinking, how could anyone look at that last picture of Max and Kit-Cat and deny that animals have a heart and soul? Those two are real buddies, and it makes me smile!
melissa
Precioius!!!! What moments!!! How lucky you are and they too!!
Katie
Loved the pictures of Max and Kit-Cat. They are quite a pair!

Doreen@househoneys
AWWWWWWWW!! I am so smitten with your four legged babies, it’s not even funny! You are sooooo lucky, and they are so unbelievably cute I simply CAN NOT STAND IT! I so miss my granddog, who is all the way in Singapore, and I live in NY :(.
And I must admit, I was (and still am) totally lost with that tech talk also…what WAS that??!! Glad to know one can still have a gorgeous blog like your’s and not be a techy. Unless, of course, Kevin does all the purdy stuff? Your pictures totally made my day. Thank you!
Peggy Winter
Those pictures are so cute, but the photo quality is terrible. You take such great pictures and it just makes me want to see them in a better quality. I find that true of so many people that use their camera phones for pictures now.
I think in years to come they will regret not having better quality photos to look at.
Layla
Sorry, Peggy! We actually do takes TONS of pictures of our pets with our “real” cameras. I just shot these with my iPhone because it was all I had near me at the time, and strangely enough, they look great on the screen on my phone. I noticed they didn’t look as clear when I skooched them over here, but I decided I wanted to share them anyway. Fuzzy pics of my fuzzy pets- ha! We’re hoping our Moms enjoyed seeing them regardless of the fuzz-factor. 😀
Jude
LOL for a whole minute! Thanks for the day brightener 🙂
Jeanette
Thank you for this post. I downloaded the app a month ago but was not sure what to do with it.
Layla
Sure thing, Jeanette! Have fun Instagrammin’! 😀
Rene@BargainHoot
Adorable! Loved every single photo. 🙂
Becky
Oh my gosh, I adore these posts about your pets!!! Keep ’em comin’. 🙂
