Happy Monday, friends!
Remember that dresser I painted a couple of weeks ago?
Well, I finally got a mirror hung up on the wall above it and I love the way it opens the room up!
I’ve been (casually) searching for something with a thin frame that’s black and has curves for the past couple of years, so I was pumped when I saw this one while I was on the Nordstrom website during their Anniversary Sale last week.
I haven’t decided how I’ll use the little shelf yet, but I like that it’s there and I’m sure it’ll come in handy.
My curtains are missing in this next photo because I’m actually swapping out the gray ones for something a little lighter. I haven’t gotten around to taking all the gray ones down yet, but that’s okay because I’m still (casually) searching for their replacements! π
Here’s a link to the mirror if you’d like to read more about it: Mirror With Shelf
Now that this side of the room is finally almost finished, I’m excited to tackle the other side. If you followed along with my stories on Instagram yesterday you know it’s a complete blank slate, complete with two boarded up windows that are just aching to be covered with something less….particle board-y. π
Brian the Carpenter is coming over today to give me an estimate on what it would cost to clad the whole wall in this stuff:
It’s exterior siding from Home Depot and it comes in big 4’x8′ sheets. They’re only $22 a piece and I like the way it simulates real exterior shiplap. Our ceiling is 8′-9″ in the bedroom, so we’d have to add an extra little row of it down near the floor, but I think once it’s lined up, caulked, and sanded it’ll be fine. EspeciallyΒ when it’s mostly blocked behind whatever pieces of furniture we use on that wall.
I’m thinking we’ll do something like this:
Just picture the paneling where the windows are, and the table in the middle acting like a desk from time to time if one of us needs to pull a chair up to it to work online.
I hope to have another update about it to share on Friday if you’re curious about how it turns out!

I have a silly question!!! I love the mirror… but in that pretty little jewelry dish you have the brown leather chord with he crystal and key on it. Where did you find that????? I LOVE it and would love to find it or something like it!! Love your blog!!!!!β€οΈ

I love the curtains and would love to know where you got them. I think they look great.

What a great idea of using the paneling as shiplap, but please check into the adhesives used in making it, not all exterior products are safe to use in your home. They can make you ill if not given a chance to air completely outside. I am not usually a nervous Nellie about things like that but it’s the first thing I thought of when I read your post.
Layla
Great thought, Diane. We actually decided to go with beadboard though! π

Layla, any reason in particular your decided on the beadboard instead of the exterior shiplap paneling? I am looking to cover our basement stairwell walls…and loved the idea of the paneling (to mimic the shiplap I have in the kitchen…without all the work.) Wanted to ask if there was a problem that he foresaw about using it? -Nanette

Oh- I just didn’t like the texture of the exterior stuff as much. We actually changed our minds again yesterday though, so we’re going with beadboard *planks* now! π

Just curious as to why you are boarding up windows instead of leaving them uncovered? The inspiration photo is lovely! And a great mirror; I’m sure you’ll do something creative with the cute shelf!
Layla
Oh, because the Bungalow Barn is on the other side of that wall now. I’d love to just put windows back in, but the roofline cuts right through the center of them.

Layla,
The last couple of weeks I’m not getting the blog emailed?
It shows up in my FB newsfeed the next day …. hmmmmmm
Strange?
