Hello! Did you have a nice Christmas? We sure did! 😀
I’m excited to meet with the builder today about creating the ladder-style staircase so we can access the loft in the Bungalow Barn. Nothing new has happened in there since I last blogged (ugh!) but there has been a change of plans with the flooring in the bathroom. We’re going to go with this black/gray/white buffalo check pattern now…
And after seeing that photo, I’m thinking a white hex tile like that would look pretty snazzy in the shower too!
We’re working with Barn Light Electric on the lighting. The bathroom (and every other room) has recessed lighting throughout, but I’m thinking two of these Wheeler Seaside Radial Wave Reflector wall sconces would look pretty above each mirror on the vanity wall:
Over in the den/kitchen…
…Katie wants to have a ceiling fan… (maybe this one?)
…and three wall sconces above the kitchen cabinets that will eventually line that back wall. Maybe something like the ones over these open shelves…but in black & white or galvanized?
There will be a matching ceiling fan in the bedroom, and a couple of flush mount lights in the loft. Maybe something like this?
Honestly, it’ll just be *so* nice to finally have electricity in there. Be back soon with an update on the stair/ladder….hopefully! 😛

Wow do I like that checked floor tile! I have to tell you that Instagram series with black and white really got me thinking! Our vintage house in one of the baths, has the white hex tiles with white subway tiles 3/4 up the walls. The bold patterned floors in your series really appealed and I didn’t think adding black grout ( vs current white) would be enough punch. Overstock has some great patterned black and white runners that are very similar to the look of the patterned concrete tiles! Needless to say once again you have inspired me!
Love the light choices! They are perfect for the space!

Something to consider–my mother had a walker and we found that patterned rugs would disorient her and make her dizzy. I don’t know if it would effect your in laws or not the same way but thought I might throw it out there.

So exciting! We did a ladder type staircase in my son’s room, here if you’d like to check it out –

I love the buffalo check floor and I can’t wait to see what lighting you come up with!

Elizabeth, your son’s room is great!
Layla, such a pretty space the Bungalow Barn is shaping up to be. 🙂 I’m glad you had a fun family Christmas with your son.

Hi Layla. Can you tell me what color you used on the walls? It’s such a pretty white. I’ll be doing my kitche-family room soon and it really helps to see it in a larger scale. Thank you!

Layla,
Where did you find that ceiling fan? It’s PERFECT for the industrial look my hubby and I want to do in our house!
The bungalow barn looks AWESOME. I can’t wait to see that ladder staircase. 🙂

You’ve got a great look going here. I think the galvanized light fixtures would be truer to what you would actually find in a real barn. So I vote for those sconces for the kitchen.

I’ve had that tile floor pinned for almost a year I think! LOVE it! I wasn’t able to implement it in our new house, but maybe when we finish the downstairs! I like the choices in lighting too, very classic! I’m sure y’all can’t wait to see the end product!
