Two things today:
1) I found another super cute and comfy outfit for under $30 on Amazon…
I ordered the top in a size small and I love it! Soft and tapered on the sides…and the sleeves are stitched so that they stayed rolled up like that.
Black & White Stripe Maxi Skirt
I ordered the skirt in a size small, but I’m sort of wishing I had gotten the XS because it’s really stretchy. And reeeeeeally super duper soft.
2) I GOT STUNG BY A WASP. 🙁
Like, for the first time ever, in all my 43 years. Right there in front of our house. Right there on that gate that’s open at the top of our stairs. Put my hand right down on the thing and I still get chills just thinking about it.
Who knew it felt like getting electrocuted??
Who knew it would feel like you’re getting stung repeatedly for the next couple of hours??
Who knew your finger could swell up so much all the wrinkles in your skin would disappear??
Of course I panicked because I didn’t know if I was allergic to wasp poison…and of course, I assumed I was.
You knew I was an over-reactor, right? 🙂
Happy weekend, friends. Watch out for those wasps!

Love the shirt! It all looks so cute on you. xx

I got stung by a wasp a few years ago on my hand. It H.U.R.T!!!! I don’t ever want that to happen again.

So sorry about the wasp sting! Wasp stings are terrible and painful even when you aren’t allergic. I guess you know that now. Loved your little story video about it. I totally panicked about one of my little boys getting stung once. They were playing in the back yard and somehow a yellow jacket or two got up his pants leg and was stinging him. He was dancing around and screaming. I didn’t figure out it was stings until I got his pants off and he had multiple stings. I called my mom and she told me to put him in the tub with warm water and a bunch of baking soda in the water so that’s what I did. It helped soothe the stinging and he felt much better in just a little while. The swelling disappeared too. Scared me pretty bad though. Maybe a quick call to your pediatrician’s office to get some advice “just in case” would be a really good idea.
On another note, I have to say that you look much more like 25 than 43…just saying! =) Glad you are ok.
Kelly
Yes, you absolutely don’t look 43…so beautiful! I’m so sorry about the sting. My daughters haven’t been stung yet either so I share that worry. Keep Benadryl on hand and call the pediatrician or a nurse friend for advice on how to be prepared. I’m sure you keep a little first aid kit in your purse, so adding a bug bite cream is a good idea to stop kids from panicking. Blessings to you and your family Layla!

I always keep Benadryl lotion and tablets on hand. Helps with pain, swelling, etc.
The Benadryl tablets help with allergic reactions. You might check with your pediatrician about an epi pen which are used for severe reactions.

Keep some Benadryl on hand for just such occasions. We keep liquid and tablets around (liquid for the grandchildren, tablets for my husband and me). Making a paste of baking soda and water and applying it to where the sting is also helps, as does ice. Also make sure all of the stinger is out. Wasps stings are very painful, but so are bumble bee stings. The difference is that bumble bee stings are more painful a few hours after the sting than they are at the time of the initial sting.

Agree with your advice. Baking soda paste helps cool the sting. And keep an eye on them for the next few hours. If ANYTHING seems odd, call 911. They can advise on the phone and assess whether you need emergency services or can drive yourself to get care.
LOVE that top!!

That is the most relatable and hilarious video ever. I found out at a July 4th fireworks show several years ago that I’m allergic to fire ants which, as you know, are rampant down South. I carry an Epi-pen. I don’t think they’ll prescribe one unless you have an “episode,” but you can ask your doc just in case. I also panic when I eat something that makes my mouth itch. Happened with peaches last year. I was convinced that my throats was swelling. It’s terrifying. So I go into Walmart and sit next to the pharmacy just in case since my epipen was expired. Psycho.

OH.My.Goodness, you are my daughter. She is an overthinking, over-reactor, over-stresser, hot mess! Both my husband and I can tend to have moments where we go down the dark swirly of crazy, but having our daughter has helped us overcome our crazy somewhat. Having to talk her down on a weekly, sometimes daily/hourly basis has helped us both a ton.
The teen girl that cried wolf (our daughter) had a limes-disease tick bite that we ignored because of her over-reactions to EVERYTHING. We didn’t even check out the bite when she mentioned it for DAYS because we were “helping” her to not overreact! Yep, parents of the year! Don’t worry we caught it eventually and got her the med’s she needed, but WOWZA, it was a close call.
Kathy
I agree that YOU DO NOT LOOK 43!!
I got a wasp or yellow jacket in my pant leg several years ago and it hurt so bad! My leg and ankle swelled up all kinds of huge! Benadryl was the answer for me. And ice. But my Mom who is 86, got stung a couple of years ago and we had to rush her to the ER. She was definitely allergic!
Keep Benadryl on hand for your little man. If you are super worried about allergies, I would have him checked out. The docs can do an allergy test and find out what all he is allergic to, if anything.
BTW – love the T-shirt and skirt!! You are adorable!
Darcy
Your outfit is so cute! You have the best figure to pull that off – you look great.
As far as wasps go…since kids may read this I will keep it clean – but yeah – they are just JERKS. Death to all wasps.

Wow – that hurts. So glad you are OK Layla. When m daughter was stung for the first time it just swelled up a bit. Now when she is stung we go to the ER as they tell me that the reaction get’s worse every time you are stung – and it has. She now carries an Epipen just in case. Please take care of yourself.
Lisa
Thank you for being real…my daughter is EXACTLY the same way. Bless you!
Jeanne
Love the tee…cute and sassy.
Carmen
My one child always has reactions to different things we learned early on to have liquid Benadryl for him and pill Benadryl for adults .( get dye free)
When we did have to go to the ER they were always glad we had started the Benadryl. I have Benadryl cream as well on hand . Glad your ok .
Janine
I just have share two words: Emergency Room.
We just learned this lesson in our family, that even calling 911 is ok. We no longer mess around with over-thinking it, we just go to the ER. New family rule. Even if it is not a super nice ER, even if it is just urgent care, whatever. We just go.
(So glad you are ok!!!!)

Love the outfit, you look too cute!!! If you want to avoid OTC drugs, pure lavender essential oil will pull the poison out and help with the sting. I got stung by a red wasp (which is worst) and I swelled like you wouldn’t believe, put pure lavender on it and within an hour the swelling and stinging was gone, re-applied again when some redness came back and the next day you would have never known I was stung. Lavender also helps with sunburns and any other kind of insect bites and it smells great, too!

I got stung by European wasps here in the garden. Americans call them yellow jackets. Man, they are the worst!
Be careful with Benadryl, it is iodine based and many people, myself included are allergic in the true sense to it.
True allergies as opposed to reactions are when your lips and/or throat and face swell, rash which is known as hives, and inability to breathe and you can often pass out. A reaction is just a very big welt or rash around the affected bite or sting. Iodine for me gives me anaphylaxis, which means if I ever have it again I will die! I was lucky and it was noticed in hospital. they use Benadryl to swab you down before sticking the knife for surgery. Uh-uh, not for Miss Delicate Snowflake here!
So with Sonny’s Haitian genetics it might be best to get him tested by an allergist specialist just to be on the safe side for anything in the future.
That t-shirt, on a lighter note is gorgeous!
Becky
I’m just amazed that this is the first time you’ve been stung! I’m 37 and I would estimate I’ve been stung 100 or more times in my life. If there is a big group of people I am always the one to get stung :/. I’m mildly allergic and the last time I got stung I had a pretty bad reaction so I am anxious about getting stung again now!
Ginger
The thing is – you can be stung many times and not have an allergic reaction, then BAM, the next time your stung, you’ve become allergic.
While your reaction may have indeed been a panic attack, everything you thought about is exactly what you should have been thinking about.
As others have suggested always keep Benadryl LIQUID on hand, as if you do have an allergic reaction it is quite likely that your throat will start to swell and the liquid will be so much easier to get down. I also keep Benadryl tablets in my purse at all times.
Ice is your best friend. 🙂
I was stung on the LIP by a black wasp when I was a child of. Holy Cow, I’m 60 now and I still remember that pain like it was yesterday.
More recently I was stung several times on the top of my hand by some angry yellow jackets and that pain went on for days too.

A few summers ago I stepped in a wasp nest that was in the ground….. oh my goodness it was awful!!!!! I ended up with stings on my legs, arms, feet, hands, stomach and back!! I was wearing a dress and they got up inside my dress, I actually pulled my dress off out in my Mom’s yard because I could feel the wasps underneath stinging me!!! I’m sure if anybody saw me running around screaming and ripping my dress off it might have looked pretty funny, but at the time it was not funny at all. I had sore red swollen spots for several days afterwards.

How tall are you? WOndering if I can pull off that skirt at 5’2″ 🙂
Layla
I’m 5′-5″. You may have to pull it up a few inches, but I think it’ll work! 🙂
Donna
Sorry about the sting! It hurts! Cute outfit! Can you tell me what size tee shirt you ordered from Amazon? Does it run true to size?
